Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 01/07

Via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association on Facebook

13 below this morning with 3-5 inches of snow since yesterday with blowing and drifting big time. Soo to Kinross and Kinross to Raco have had groomers on most of them. They are rideable but not great for smooth yet, still some water issues but you can get your sled around them. The rest of the trails are in good condition.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 23- 5 inches -Trail is in Good Condition. Watch for logging trucks the last 2 miles before Brimley, they are using the grade to haul, so a portion is plowed.

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 2 – 6 inches -Trail is in Good Condition. The cold temps have the wet areas frozen except on the very edge of trail.

Raco to Naomikong Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 –

Base 3 – 6 inches – Trail is in Good to Excellent Condition. Lots of snow out here but blowing and drifting snow with the high winds.

Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –

Base 2 -4 inches – Trail is Fair condition except right before you get to the Casino. There are several wet areas that are slowly freezing especially down by the Casino. But you can get your sled around them.

City curfew is from 1am – 6 am. Remember most City streets are open to traffic 20mph, stop at all intersections, and ride the right hand side of street not on side walks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 2 – 4 inches – Trail is in Poor to Fair Condition. The trail still has a couple water issues but we did groom most of it Tuesday night.

When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

Kinross loop & south to Pickford, Parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494 –

Base 2 – 4 inches – Trail in Fair condition. Not as much snow out here but we did some new last night.

Kinross to Raco, Parts of trail #472 & #480 –

Base 1 – 4 inches – Trail in Poor Condition. Some wet spots and swampy areas. We groomed it Saturday and most of the water is frozen but one spot by the bridge but you can get around it on your sled.

The Downtown Trail is signed but not groomed.
