Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 03/19

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. There will be a groomer out today in transit. Grooming will resume when we receive new snow. Trails are in late season condition.

Any trail usage should be done with extreme care as there are rocks, stumps, branches and wet areas not covered by snow and hazards that have not yet been identified. Road crossings are bare.

Trail 122 to Gay is closed for logging until further notice. Alternate routes to Gay are trails 124 and 133.

The mat on the Portage Lift bridge has been removed.

The Portage Lift bridge will be closed on Saturday, 3/21/15, from 9 pm until 8:30 am on Sunday, 3/22/15. You will not be able to cross the bridge during this time so please plan accordingly.

Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails, they have the right of way!!

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.

Newberry Trail Report – 03/18

Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association Report – March 18

O.K. here we go again. Trail Boss just called and said he had an idea. We are going to run the 4×4 New Holland down (M-123) to 3 mile and in to trail #9 and groom to where it meets Trail #8 at the Holland Lk. Rd and back to Pine Stump where we will leave the groomer for the night. The owner of the North Store near Wolf-Inn is lending out his truck so drivers can get back and forth from town as our truck went thru a transmission. Tomorrow night another driver will drive to Pine Stump, leave the truck and groom back to town. We will repeat this process to groom the trails for you as long as we can. Our 4×4 John Deere is in the shop so we are going to try the New Holland 2 track on trail 45 that leads to the Falls and groom at least out to where it crosses M-123 near the Falls. Maybe Paradise can groom the rest of that trail for us, Wally will check on it. Now, we have to check on the weight restrictions to put the 2 track on the road as it has a cleated track. I will update you as changes take place.

If anyone coming up has a transmission for a 94 chevy 1500 ext-cab pick-up, 4×4 with a 5.7 liter engine that you would like to get rid of, let my know, TASA really could use it. Till next, be safe and maybe we will see you.
