Benzie Area Trail Report – 01/12

January 12 – Lots of new snow.
Groomers will be out on a regular schedule.
Get out and ride

January 11 – Groomers will be out all week. Keep in mind we are in early stages of building a good base. This means we are using snow to fill large holes, TRUCK RUTS, and water holes. With this weeks snow forecast we should be in good condition by the weekend. I’ll update tomorrow after I blast through all the fresh stuff on my ride!

Benzie Visitor Bureau – 1/11

Hi all! Yeehah! We got snow and conditions are getting better every day now! We received between 4-8′ of system snow first, then a few more inches of lake effect, then some serious winds yesterday AND now tonight and into tomorrow we are forecasted to get another 6-12′ of a lake effect ‘clipper’! So, groomers were out last night and got all the trails but the Brethren spur groomed last night which they will do tomorrow. The B/M Snowbirds facebook page said that their ‘planned’ groomer schedule for the year will be Kaleva to Highbridge – Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. and Kaleva to Bear Lake/Thompsonville – Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun, and Turtle Creek and North – Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun. Remember this is the ‘PLAN’ but obviously does not account for extreme weather, breakdowns, etc. Also remember that high traffic causes bumps in the trails, & riding sensibly helps keep the corners and intersections smooth. Please get outta the groomers way if ya see one and give them a thumbs up! They are working to keep the trails in good condition for you. Shout out of THANKS to Roy for the email! Love hearing from y’all out there! SO – finally I can post a good report and say till next time CYA on the trails! Carol

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/12

We are under a Lake Effect Snow Advisory until 3pm today. It is a Winter Wonderland outside today with blowing snow and windchill of -14. Please use caution if you are riding today. Make sure you layer to keep warm.

The former Gogebic Range Trail Authority now known as the Snow Shakers are reporting: Trail 2 from Bessemer to Ironwood is groomed and is in good to very good condition.
Trail 2 from Bessemer to Wakefield is in good condition.
Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marinesco is in poor to fair condition be prepared for wet spots. Please ride with caution.
Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula is groomed and is in good condition.
Trail 160 is in very poor shape with lots of wet and rough areas, please ride with extreme caution.

All of our trails are in early season condition so please ride with extreme caution as you may come across very wet and rough areas.
Reminder that trail 11 north and 11 south are closed for this winter season. The section of trail from 11N to 11 up to trail 102 is not being groomed due to the closure of 11N.

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS, RIDING ON A UNMARKED TRAIL MAY RESULT IN THE CLUB LOOSING EASEMENT TO THE PROPERTY. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

The Lake Gogebic Area Groomers are reporting:
With approx. 8 – 10-inches of new snow since Saturday and some extremely cold temperatures arriving during the early Sunday hours we’re getting set up for much improved trail conditions. Groomers are out on most of the trails – still doing some filling in any remaining wet areas – and should be over all trails by Tuesday. We’ve got more extreme cold through most of this week with additional snow amounts in the forecast for each day. Tuesday is calling for the most snowfall with upwards of 8-inches. This said, caution should still be used on all trails as conditions will probably run from poor to fair to good, but all trails will have some trouble spots on them for awhile.

Please check locally for lake conditions. It is changing hourly. We suggest strongly to stay OFF THE LAKE.

Watersmeet Groomers are reporting:
Good News….groomers are out and will be running daily.
Trail 2 west is in good shape
Trail 2 east groomer isn’t in yet to report on conditions.
Trail 3 north is in good shape
Trail 3 south groomer isn’t in yet to report on conditions.
Trail 13 south is in good shape.
