Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 02/12

February 12, 2016 — Predictions have come true and we’ve got what’s stacking up to be some of the best conditions of the winter on our trails.

Some very cold temps, lots of snow (and more on the way) and groomers running around the clock, day and night. Do expect some pretty heavy traffic this holiday weekend as quite a few of you have a 3 day weekend.

Please use extra caution out on the trails as a lot of the sledders will be families with younger riders. Always ride to the right, single file – especially on corners to avoid accidents as well as reducing speed.

We’re expecting some very cold nighttime temps so be sure to practice some safety measures when heading out. Always try to keep your tank topped off, especially heading out on one of our longer trails, dress in layers, cover any exposed skin to protect against frostbite and it’s always a good idea to head out with a buddy or a the very least let someone know your planned route.

VERY IMPORTANT -We want to remind all to be sure to exit the lake at the Bergland Dock – DO NOT RIDE BEYONE THIS POINT. We think some of you may have mistaken the cell tower with its red flashing light in the distance as a spot to ride to – which will take you right to the dam.

No problems to report on any trails at this time, however continue to watch for logging truck traffic over a portion of Trail 102, and always remember to respect the trucks and give them the right of way at all times – for your safety… The logging on a portion of Trail 13 south has been reduced already to about a mile of that section, south of the Root Cellar. Please keep in mind that the logging companies have granted us easement to run our trails on their property so we have to respect the signing and stay out of their way or risk losing the easement. Reduce speed through this area and watch for truck traffic.

Please remember to always ride to the right and single file to prevent accidents, especially on blind corners.

I know some of you will not want to hear this but the way you ride on the trails dramatically impacts the condition of the trails. “Goosing” your sleds on corners results in throwing all the snow off the corners, causing bare conditions and making the groomer have to spend extra time trying to plow snow back onto the corners. “Goosing your sled wherever you stop and start again creates moguls, sometimes into driveways. These are just a few things you can change to help keep the trails in good ride able condition. We appreciate the help you can give.
Please ride safe! That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area please visit the chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com

Paradise Area Trail Report – Paradise Area Night Riders – 02/12

February 12, 2016

Got outa bed this morning, looked out the window and said uh oh…this is gonna be a busy day!!! It is 12 degrees and snowing and looks like we got about 10 inches last night….uh oh. I have a waist high drift at my front door!

Needless to say this is gonna help the trails!!! It may take us a day or two to get everything groomed in but that excellent word may come out!

Our groomer that is down with the electrical demons is gonna hurt us now. That darn thing has been down for 3 weeks now. The good news is we called in the big guns….a groomer mechanic from Minnesota is coming in this morning….if he can get in. Lets hope he can figure it all out. We haven`t been in the swamp cause we don`t have a groomer available. Now we have plenty of snow we will get in there as soon as we can.

So…thats what I got for ya`s this morning. All trails are good plus with that excellent word just waiting. Once we can get into the swamp I think we will be able to open that section back up. LET `ER SNOW!!
