Munising Area Trail Report – 01/17

TRAIL REPORT, Tuesday, January 17, 2023 6:30 a.m.

MOTHER NATURE STILL NOT COOPERATING!

No significant changes from yesterday. Warm rainy weather still has grooming operations on hold with trails in an overall Fair condition. The main trails have fair snow cover but are choppy, soft and sugary. For those die hard riders expect thin areas with dirty snow, gravelly in areas with some icy inside corners. Road crossings and entering towns will have dirty snow and bare pavement. Keep a close eye on conditions as you ride and stay right. We have hazardous water holes on Trail 418 so ride and cross with extreme caution (Map in images showing locations). It is expected to have more wet spots develop with current weather conditions. Lets hope we get a significant amount of snow soon so we can rebuild the trail system.

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails – 01/15

It was a very busy Saturday with plenty of traffic around for the long weekend and the trail took a beating. Even after leaving two hours later than usual we ran into a lot of traffic still out enjoying the day.

We expect the west bound side of the trail to get bumpy fairly quickly as just about everyone we passed was happy to be able to get off the beat up side of trail and onto something flat, can’t blame them for that today but without any set up time and about 30 to 40 riders passing us it was already getting bumpy by our return trip. The rest of the trail.and the eastern end are in great shape for Sunday.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Another quickly-moving Clipper will bring a round of widespread, light snow beginning this evening, followed by lingering lake effect snow across the NW wind snow belts for Tuesday. Totals of an inch or less are expected for most of the UP, but where lake effect snow occurs, up to 2-5in of snow is possible tonight through Tuesday evening. As winds pick up early Tuesday, patchy blowing snow may contribute to reduced visibility in the NW wind snow belts. Sault Ste. Marie Trail Report – 01/16

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 01/16

After a very busy weekend, we are out doing what we can with the minimal snow we have. Hoping more arrives soon. Until then, it truly helps things last if you come upon a freshly groomed trail to use a little throttle discipline. Hoping we will finally get some fresh snow and consistent colder temps at the end of the week to freshen and tighten up the trails.

Groomer Pete was out on the city trails tonight. Here’s his report-

“City trails are done. Holding up better than the west. Way less traffic, most likely. I did everything except the casino leg due to water holes. Traffic right after the groom blew the snow right out of the moguls, so it’s not setting up great. I did what I could though. Saw more people immediately switching to the left side of the trail upon meeting the groomer. I understand the desire for smooth, but it’s unsafe and immediatly ruins grooming work.”

Thank you Pete!

Keeping our eye on potential for some accumulating snow later in the week🥶

Hope you all had a great weekend!
