Hi All. Todays the day for the system snow to roll through and LES and cold temps right on through the weekend, with a good amount forecasted, but again it’s a forecast, believe it or not! Our snowmobile Rentals are ready to go and ride right from our Resort. Check our Facebook page for conditions (the link is below), or call the Resort 8am until 10 pm at 231 745 4101. For the snowmobile season, It sure helps when our Resort is in the middle of 5 different grooming clubs, if one club is not grooming today, one of the other clubs will be. Come up during the week without the crowds and get some fantastic riding. Keep an eye on our ATV & Snow Report for all the reports from the local grooming clubs and everything about ATVs & Snowmobiles and our trail report, on one of the largest trail systems, plus there is a link to the Michigan DNR website for the new signage changes. Remember that there are some ATV and dirt bike trails that you can ride year around here too, including the Little O and Tin Cup Springs. PLEASE DO NOT RIDE YOUR ORV ON SNOWMOBILE ONLY TRAILS. You can call us at 231 745 4101 during business hours of 8am until 10pm, to reserve an ATV, Room or Snowmobile. But if you just need a trail report please look at our website and take a look at the WolfCam for the snow totals.

We are members of the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, Baldwin Trailriders, Irons Area Tourist Association, Wellston Winter Trails and Promotions, Benzie-Manistee Snowbirds, Lake County ORV Club and the Michigan Snowmobile Association. These are the local grooming clubs, in which we help support all of your favorite sports. When I go to an area, I always buy the new map for the season from the local snowmobile or ORV club. Trails may change and so do the maps. But I always spend my hard earned money, only with the businesses that support my sport. All those advertisers on the Snowmobile or ORV Club maps are the people, that help make those trails possible for all of us to ride. Just my two cents.

We have rooms available for this week and weekend, so what are you waiting for? We are snowmobilers too, and know if there is not enough snow to ride, you do not want to come up and not be able to ride. Just call us before you come up and we will tell you the conditions at that time and if there is not enough snow to ride, you can cancel your room with no penalties. But if there is enough snow to ride we expect you to keep your reservation. I CAN NOT SAY THIS ENOUGH, WEEKDAY RIDING IS THE BEST. SMOOTH TRAILS AND LESS TO NO TRAFFIC.

 
Make sure you STOP when they see the groomers so they can move by. It’s really dangerous to have riders keep moving when the groomers pass. Make sure you wave and show your support. Also, please stay off the ribbon so it will set up, and the trails will stay smoother longer.
Here is a list of the snowmobile trails in this area, I believe these numbers are correct, are you ready? The Baldwin trails, (146 miles) go west to Reed City and south from here to Newaygo, Irons trails wrap around Wolf Lake and then heads north, east and west for 122 miles and connects to Cadillac and Wellston trails, Cadillac trails connect into the Irons and Wellston trails all the way to Cadillac, then south to Leroy, they groom 124 miles, Wellston trails goes west to connect to Cadillac trails and south to the Irons Trails and west to Freesoil for 68 miles and north to the, Benzie/Manistee trail system. The Pere Marquette trail connects to The Baldwin trail and all the way to Evart and up to Leroy 144 miles, the south Pere Marquette trail goes to Grand Rapids, I think about 140 miles, then north the Benzie/Manistee trail goes all the way to the Maple City another 147 miles I think. Let’s total this up, 146 + 122 + 124 + 68 + 140 + 147 = 747 in groomed connecting trails just in this area alone and we are right in the middle of them. I know most of the groomer operators and their schedules, so if a trail is bumpy one way, we know which way to go, to have smooth trails. I don’t know about you but that is a ton of riding. Now there is more trails to get to, but that would be just over kill and this is not even counting the hundreds of miles of the two tracks and seasonal roads that you can ride. Why spent an extra $200 to $300 in fuel to get to Gaylord or the UP when we have fantastic riding right here.

Remember that the mid week riding is the best, less to no traffic, no lines at the gas pump.
There are over 740 miles of connecting groomed trails that run through this area and surrounding areas, so why would you want to go anywhere else? Plus miles and miles of two tracks and seasonal roads. We have two bedroom lake front rooms with full kitchens, living rooms with a sofa sleeper, (sleeps 6 – $112 a night), double lake front rooms with a queen and full beds and a kitchenette and dining table and chairs (sleeps 4 – $90 a night). Double motel rooms with two double beds and a mini fridge, (sleeps 4 – $60 a night) and single motel rooms with one full bed, (sleeps 2 – $45 a night) and our large Bunk House which has two bed rooms with queen bunk beds and a queen sofa sleeper, full kitchen, full living room, a breakfast bar and a fireplace (sleeps 10 – $ 167 a night). With a total of 100 inches of snowfall this season our snow is still coming down. We have Lake Effect Snow Warning until 3 p.m. today. We are suppose get an additional 4-6 inches of snow today and probably had gotten about a foot of snow since yesterday. Highs for today will be 10 with wind chills -5 to -10. For the next several days our temps will be in the single digits during the day and below zero at night. We have snow in the forecast through Thursday.

Western U.P. Snow Shakers (GRTA) reported on Feb.2
I have no new report from the U.P.Snow Shakers.
Trail 2 from Ironwood to Bessemer is groomed and is in good to very good condition. From Bessemer to Wakefield it is groomed and it is in good condition. From Wakefield to Marenisco it is groomed and is in good to very good condition.

Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula was groomed on Wednesday. It is in good condition.

Trail 160 is groomed and is in good condition. Be prepared for a few wet areas along the trail.

Trial 11N and 11S are closed this winter.

Just a reminder Trail 11 between Trail 11N and 102 is not being groomed due to the closure of 11N.

Lake Gogebic Area Groomers:

We had another busy weekend with temps reaching into the 30’s which didn’t help our trails. The good news is that we are getting snow today and all three groomers on all trails. With this said by Wednesday there shouldn’t be a bad trail out there.

Trails 8W & 8E along with 1 North will be double groomed each day weather permitting.

Trail 102 logging is ongoing. Please use caution logging trucks have the right of way.

Trail 13 south of the Root Cellar logging has started here so please use caution.

I know some of you will not want to hear this but the way you ride on the trails dramatically impacts the condition of the trails. “Goosing” your sled on corners results in throwing all the snow off the corners, causing bare conditions and making the groomer have to spend extra time trying to plow snow back onto the corners. “Goosing your sled wherever you stop and start again creates moguls, sometimes into driveways. These are just a few things you can change to help keep the trails in good rideable condition. We appreciate the help you can give.
Continue to watch for logging truck traffic over a portion of Trail 102, and always remember to respect the trucks and give them the right of way at all times – for your safety. No problems to report on any of our other trails at this time. Please remember to always ride to the right and single file to prevent accidents, especially on blind corners.
*I’ve been asked to post the following as a public service to all snowmobilers so you can make adjustments before heading out.
MICHIGAN DNR REMINDS SNOWMOBILES OF SOUND DECIBEL LIMITS

The MDNR are reminding snowmobilers that state law does have decibel limits for snowmobiles. The conservation officers will be enhancing statewide efforts to enforce the law. The muffler on a snowmobile must be in good working order and when in constant operation noise emission cannot exceed the 88 decibel limit. A factory installed muffler system will meet these standards. The penalty for violating the sound levels is a civil infraction with fines up to $250.00.
Half of our trails are on private lands and are at the discretion of the landowner. “Riders who modify their machines to make them extra loud jeopardize the enjoyment of our nationally recognized trails for all riders.” said Ron Yesney, Recreation Specialist with the MDNR.
Also, no colored lens covers may be used in Michigan on snowmobiles.

Groomers are running daily.

Trail 2 west of Watersmeet is good.

Trail 2 east of Watersmeet to Trail 107 is good.

Trail 3 north of Trail to Trail 8 is good.

Trail 3 south of Watersmeet to Land O’ Lakes WI -is good.

Trail 13 south of Trail 2 towards the Cisco Chain of Lakes WI – good.

Please help the drivers out and pull off the trail if you can so they can pass you, the groomer cannot pull off the trail but in most cases will stop or slow down so you can pass safely.
