TRAIL REPORT: 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 22
Temp 29 degrees and cloudy.

Daytime groomers reported:
* Trail 8, Trail 422 to Miner’s Castle and Trail 7 South to CR440 are in good condition.
* Trail 419 from Trail 8 North into Wetmore is fair to good.
From Wetmore it is good along M-28 to poor in the hills (corners are dug out with rocks being exposed in some areas) to good as you approach Munising.
From Munising to Christmas it goes from fair to good after the first few miles (corners dug out with rocks being exposed in some areas).
*Trail 7 from Christmas South to Ridge Road is good to fair (corners dug out with rocks being exposed in some areas).
The remainder of Trail 7 South to the Trail 8 intersection is good.

UPDATE: 6:00 am Monday, February 22
Temp 19 degrees and cloudy.
Trails have improved from night time grooming with all of our section of Trail 8, Trail 422 to H-58 and Trail 7 North to Christmas getting (2) more groomer passes. Inspection of Trail 8 is showing a nice pack after last nights work. Hopefully we have fully recovered from this weekends warm weather after today’s grooming operations and what we have to work with.

Daytime Grooming operations:
Pisten Bully is currently running 419 up to Christmas then to finish cleaning-up the weekend moguling on the North end of Trail 7.
John Deere is heading out Trail 8 to Trail 422 and all the way up to Miner’s Castle.

Grooming Report 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 21
Temp 21 degrees scattered snow showers.
Unfortunately no snow forecast in the near future.

Today’s grooming has trails in good condition with slight moguling left in some areas. Trail 7 for the last 2 1/2 miles toward Christmas is in fair condition, large moguls with standing water. Trail 8 was in good condition, better West and currently being finished up to and from the East and Shingleton.

Night grooming operations:
Pisten Bully currently heading Trail 419 South to Trail 8 West to Trail 7 North into Christmas and back the same route.
John Deere is again heading out 419 South to Trail 8 East to Shingleton, back to Trail 422 up to Miner’s Castle then back down to Trail 8 returning to Wetmore.

The Groomer Pilot team continues working hard at the slow process of trail restoration. The snow is grooming out in a dry, icy consistency not wanting to pack. These conditions are requiring multiple passes to completely clean-up and leave slight moguls in some areas because of limited base and lack of snow to work with.

Munising Trail Report. We have approximately 12-20 inches of snow for base on the ground; more in some spots and little less in others. Grooming has been resumed. Due to the recent warm temps and the rain we have had some damage to the trails, now that we have colder temps we are working to flatten the trails out again. We will keep you updated right here. I am sorry to report that we didn’t dodge the bullet… we had rain Friday so our trails took a hit. Our temps for this week will be in the 20’s with the exception of Tues. We will have a high of 34 with a chance of 1″ of snow. Hopefully the groomers can get out and do some magic. Expect some icy corner so slow down….

For all areas:
PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS, RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS MAY RESULT IN THE CLUB LOOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL.

Western U.P.Snow Shakers report from Feb.19th.

Due to the warm weather groomers will not be out operation. All trails will be in fair to possibly even poor condition. There is logging going on near the railroad tracks on trail 8 before you get to Tula so please ride with caution. I will update you on the trails as soon as I get a report from the U.P. Snow Shakers.

Trial 11N and 11S are closed this winter.

Just a reminder Trail 11 between Trail 11N and 102 is not being groomed due to the closure of 11N.

Lake Gogebic Area Groomers: Reported on the 21st.

The groomers are back at it however after the warmer weather they have their job cut out for them. All the trails are in pretty rough shape, we need more snow since we saw a lot of melting and refreezing over the weekend. Things look like they should shape up by the end of the week but we will keep you posted. Watch out for corners they may be icy…..

Trails 8W & 8E along with 1 North will be double groomed each day weather permitting.

Trail 102 logging is ongoing. Please use caution logging trucks have the right of way.

Trail 13 south of the Root Cellar logging has started here so please use caution.

I know some of you will not want to hear this but the way you ride on the trails dramatically impacts the condition of the trails. “Goosing” your sled on corners results in throwing all the snow off the corners, causing bare conditions and making the groomer have to spend extra time trying to plow snow back onto the corners. “Goosing your sled wherever you stop and start again creates moguls, sometimes into driveways. These are just a few things you can change to help keep the trails in good rideable condition. We appreciate the help you can give.
Continue to watch for logging truck traffic over a portion of Trail 102, and always remember to respect the trucks and give them the right of way at all times – for your safety. No problems to report on any of our other trails at this time. Please remember to always ride to the right and single file to prevent accidents, especially on blind corners.
*I’ve been asked to post the following as a public service to all snowmobilers so you can make adjustments before heading out.
MICHIGAN DNR REMINDS SNOWMOBILES OF SOUND DECIBEL LIMITS

The MDNR are reminding snowmobilers that state law does have decibel limits for snowmobiles. The conservation officers will be enhancing statewide efforts to enforce the law. The muffler on a snowmobile must be in good working order and when in constant operation noise emission cannot exceed the 88 decibel limit. A factory installed muffler system will meet these standards. The penalty for violating the sound levels is a civil infraction with fines up to $250.00.
Half of our trails are on private lands and are at the discretion of the landowner. “Riders who modify their machines to make them extra loud jeopardize the enjoyment of our nationally recognized trails for all riders.” said Ron Yesney, Recreation Specialist with the MDNR.
Also, no colored lens covers may be used in Michigan on snowmobiles.

The U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet report:

Groomers are back out running daily as long as the temps are below 32 degrees. With our warmer weather and rain over the weekend our trail conditions have changed.

Trail 2 west of Watersmeet is fair-good- road area are fair. Most of the trail is good but use caution on corners they are icy.

Trail 2 east of Watersmeet to Trail 107 is fair.

Trail 3 north of Trail 2 to Trail 8 is good with icy corners.

Trail 3 south of Watersmeet to Land O’ Lakes WI – is fair.

Trail 13 south of Trail 2 towards the Cisco Chain of Lakes WI – is fair with icy corners.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.
