Indian River Trail Report – 12/19

The guys ran the tractors again this weekend and report great trail conditions on the railroad grade and in the woods. The only area they can’t groom yet is the stretch of swamp on the Alanson connector. They pulled snow into the low-lying areas and now we have to wait for it to freeze up. We’ve got a start on that thanks to temps in the teens today. We’re also getting some sunshine and blue sky for the first time in a while. The winds were strong this weekend and blew around the falling snow. Estimates are 3″ of new snow fell over the weekend. This is a great start for our trail system and riders were making the most of it. Looks like we might see a little more snow tomorrow and Wednesday, along with temps up around freezing. As for today here’s hoping you’re one of the lucky ones out riding and taking in the beautiful scenery.

If you’re interested in supporting local grooming efforts, visit www.justgroomit.org for details on joining the Indian River Snowmobile Grooming club with a membership donation. We have hats and t-shirts (short & long sleeve) for sale too. Even when we can’t groom we still have operational expenses like insurance, two-way radio communication subscriptions, equipment repair, utilities and more. Thanks to member donations we’re almost done with interior/finish construction at our new equipment barn! We now store and work on the grooming equipment only yards from the DNR trailhead. Your support makes all the difference. Thank you–

Ontonagon Trail Report – Scott’s Superior Inn – 12/18

Looks like winter has finally arrived, we have about 12″ on lakeshore with up to 24″ away from the lake, we are grooming snowmobile trails with them being in good to very good shape, the Porkies ski hill opened last Friday so there’s plenty to do in this area this time of year. We still have lots of openings including lakefront chalets.

Remember !! if you got good snow by you we will have a lot more and a lot less traffic!

DECEMBER 17

WE got 12-18″ of snow on the ground, and we have started grooming, there are still a few wet spots to freeze up, but for the most part the trails are in pretty decent shape, Trail#12 going west out of Ontonagon has not been groomed completely cause a land owner still hasn’t opened his gate(right on edge of airport), suppose to do it this weekend, calling for heavy snow all weekend, and very cold temps. we have lots of openings in our resort including lakefront chalets that sleep up to 8, great time to come up.

We have a 30% discount on all lodging still till Dec. 23rd.
