St. Ignace Trail Report – Straits Area Snowmobile Club – 12/22

Morning update from crews. We have 4 crews of over a dozen guys and gals out there working to clear trails. They started at the outer limits of the damage and are working to wards each other. The Dam Rd is clear, and the 2 crews working the RR Grade just linked up at Castle Rock, which means you can now ride out of town. All 4 crews are now working Castle Rock and Round Lake roads.

This means the western side of the lower loop is still closed until further notice, but the eastern side is open, and ridable, but ungroomed. The lower loop may not be groomed for a little while.

Bobby reported in at 4am on the Northern loops. Trails are in good to very good condition with 3 water holes. He will be headed up to the caffey today. He has cut a few trees, but not nearly the problem that we have in the Iggy area.

Make the reservations, we are getting things fixed up for ya.!

Cadillac Area Trail Report – Cadillac Trails – 12/21

Update–4 p.m.: Just received word from our Trail Coordinator the groomers will stay off the trails for a few days and let the sleds pack the trails. Those riding yesterday reported the trails to be a huge “sponge”. The trails remain wet under the new snow we are receiving today. We are receiving reports of several downed tree limbs on the trails so be careful.

Also, don’t be tempted to ride on the lakes. As of this morning there was open water and what ice is there hasn’t been there long.

Morning update: There’s a lot of snowing and blowing going on right this morning. It’s truly awesome outside. The kind of weather you should be snowmobiling in and not driving your vehicle. It’s hard to say how much accumulation we have gotten as it is blowing around. The snow gauge is showing 5 inches. The rain we had late in the day yesterday settled much of the snow received throughout the day. Temps turned cooler overnight and the moisture returned to snow. Hopefully it will stay below freezing today and we will continue to receive snow throughout the day as forecasted.

Snow Accumulation: 5 inches

Trails are in great shape. Our crews worked hard on them throughout the summer. Lots of the old signs were removed and some new signs put up. REMEMBER there are fewer signs in the woods this winter so when you finally do get a chance to ride, take your time and enjoy the ride. The need for speed may be costly to you and to others. Assume every trail is a winding trail and be ready for the next curve.

A reminder to those who enjoy riding the White Pine Trail, State Park officials have asked snowmobilers to ‘refrain from operating snowmobiles when less than four inches of snow cover the trail.’
