Boyne Area Trail Report – Mountainside Inn – 01/18

Petoskey Snowmobile Club – 01/16
Current Trail Conditions: Poor

We had a pretty good weekend of riding. Picked up a few inches of snow on Friday night, which helped, but this being MLK weekend, there was a lot of traffic out there and the trails are getting worn thin. Riders that we talked to at the beanpot told us that the base was thin in spots with some "snirt" popping up in quite a few areas. We need more snow!

The new trail into Petoskey IS OPEN! It goes from our clubhouse trailhead (on the corner of Cedar Valley Rd. and Evergreen Trail) to the Odawa Casino just south of Petoskey. The trail has a few road crossings, including having to cross US-131 at Lears Rd. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE use extreme caution when crossing any road. STAY ON THE TRAIL and obey traffic signals. Safety first.

Finally got some system snow that will help build the trail base. Groomers are out and the trails are still busy. This week is looking better than last week for the trails.

Drummond Island Trail Report – Drummond Island Snow Report – 01/18

SNOW GAUGE REPORT: EXTRA! EXTRA! The Groomer is out on the trails for the second time in 24 hours! We have updated the Snow Gauge Report to show the accumulation from yesterday’s storm. The snow currently stands at 9 inches on the ground in protected areas, more where it has drifted and less where it was blown off by the wind that came with the snow.

SNOWMOBILING FANS: The Groomer is out and reports he is leaving a nice trail behind him as he works his way over the trail system. The trails will be officially open as soon as he comes in from grooming the entire system. A more complete report of exact conditions will be posted at that time.

INTERNATIONAL ICE BRIDGE TO CANADA: The *building* of the ice bridge will not happen until Saturday, January 22nd. Customs will officially open the route on Sunday, January 23rd. Keep watching – you will hear it here first!

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING FANS: All trails are OPEN! Yesterday’s storm brought much needed snow. The Rainbow Trail system has been groomed. The fresh snow is exhilarating!

SNOWSHOEING FANS: All trails are open for snowshoeing! It’s GREAT to be a Northerner when the snow is fresh and deep!

ICE SKATING FANS: The local rink is open and waiting! Grab your skates, a thermos of hot cocoa and head down to the Townhall. The ice is slick and fast!
