Drummond Island Trail Report – Drummond Island Snow Report – 01/21

FRIDAY SNOW GAUGE REPORT UPDATE: (1-21-11): An unexpected snow storm dumped on Drummond over night! The total now stands at 12 inches. The plows are out in full force this morning!

SNOWMOBILING FANS:
The Groomer is back out this morning! All this new snow is really leaving a nice trail behind as he works his way over the trail system on the West End.

East End conditions are still only *Fair* due to the 2 areas that had been plowed down to almost gravel.

INTERNATIONAL ICE BRIDGE TO CANADA: The *building* of the ice bridge will happen this weekend – Saturday, January 22nd. Customs officials will begin to man the Island offices full time on January 23rd and the Bridge will officially open at that time. Before you cross make sure you have the appropriate ID paperwork.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING FANS: All trails are OPEN! The Rainbow Trail system has been groomed. The fresh snow is exhilarating!

SNOWSHOEING FANS: All trails are open for snowshoeing! Local volunteers have been out on the Heritage Trail system making improvements to the signage and clearing fallen branches. It’s GREAT to be a Northerner when the snow is fresh and deep!

ICE SKATING FANS: The local rink is open and waiting! Grab your skates, a thermos of hot cocoa and head down to the Townhall. The ice is slick and fast!

Traverse City Trail Report – Blue Sky Snowmobile Rentals – 01/20

Rode almost 100 miles today. Thursday tour left the Peeg at noon we rode trail 5 to Kalkaska. The trail was overall pretty good, not too many icy spots and very little snirt. From Kalkaska to Fife Lake is always my favorite ride. Today was great, very little bumps along the trail from there heading to the Ranch. Once at the ranch we took a break and had a bite then headed back to the Peeg. All in all the best I’ve seen the trails all season. We are expecting more snow tonight and the 10 day forecast looks good. Maybe winter is finally hitting us like it should.

Be safe out there !

Jamie
