This is the Keweenaw trail system report for Wednesday, January 11, 2012.
The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and groomers are out working on them as temperatures allow. Conditions range from poor in towns and near the lake, to fair. Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails….they have the right of way!!!
There is logging on a short portion of Trails 132 and 133.
Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.
Snowfall & Weather Report:
Houghton county – 12 inches on the ground, 86.5 inches fallen to date as of 1/11/12
Keweenaw county –7 inches on the ground, 60 inches fallen to date as of 1/11/12

Our temps have been like a yo-yo…temps today will be unseasonable warm so if you ride try to ride early in the day. Snow is in the forecast Wednesday thru Friday with temps in the teens for the highs and single digits for the low.. We need snow so lets keep our fingers crossed….
GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Reports Trails 2, 8 and 160 are all groomed and are in fair conditions. Trail 160 has two wet spots so use caution. Trail 11S will be groomed tomorrow.
GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS Lake Gogebic groomers report with heavy traffic this weekend trails are groomed and in fair condition. Do expect some poor spots with the warmer weather. We need more snow to get them back in great shape. We will keep you updated.
U.P.THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET report all groomers are out and trails are in fair shape. Do expect some poor spots with the warmer weather.
Keep in mind the groomers will be out day and night, so watch for them,and PLEASE pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

Here are a few gas station updates. The gas station in Paulding is closed so plan ahead for filling up. On the up side the gas station in Marenisco is now open.
