GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY – The groomers are out today doing the best they can with what they have to work with. Expect trails to be poor around towns and fair to good once you get out on the trails. It is best to trailer to Wakefield and ride from there. Trail 2 from Ironwood to Wakefield is poor. You will encounter bare spots and ice. There is a small detour on 160 that is marked. You have to ride the side of the road on VanDer Hagen from Sunset Road to the railroad tracks. Trail 11S logging is still ongoing closer to the Wisconsin boarder signs are posted so use caution. Logging trucks have the right of way so please pull over when you see them.. On 11N, use caution around the water spot (it is now broke open so please use extra caution) signs are posted. Trail 11N and 160 closer to the lake snow will again be marginal. Use caution on corners they may be extremely icy.
LOGGING IS PLANNED OFF OF SOUTH BOUNDARY ROAD SO WATCH FOR SIGNS AND PLOWED AREAS.

U.P.THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET – Groomers are planning on going out later today. Trails will be poor around towns with some fair to good riding once you get out on the trails. Expect so bare spots and ice.

ABOUT THE ICE: There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you choose to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for specific information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.

Here are a few gas station updates. The gas station in Paulding is closed, so plan ahead for filling up. On the up side the gas station in Marenisco is now open.

Cadillac Area Trail Report – 03/07

Thursday, March 7, 2012

Snow accumulation: 0 inches* (some in the forest–not much)

We lost the snow almost as quickly as it came. The trails are a mess if they exist at all. Where there is snow it’s slush or snirt–not a pretty picture. The White Pine is down to pavement. The Cadillac West/InTown Trail is mostly green or brown. It appears for the next week or so spring has sprung as we have more 40 to 50 degree days in the foreseeable future. The best we can hope for is a spring break snow storm. We never rule those out.

The guys have been working non-stop since the storm clearing the trail system of fallen trees and brush. It’s been a back-breaking job. They are working today down by the Pine River Bridge. The White Pine Trail is yet to be done. We have had such high winds the last couple of days the guys are afraid there have been some additional trees come down in areas they have already cleared.

We hope this isn’t the end of the season but it could be–stay tuned.

Staging areas: Our trail system has numerous staging areas for your convenience:

Tustin
Bristol
33 Rd (Off M55)
44 Rd (Off M115)
27 Rd (Off M55)
