Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/29

Mother Nature is giving us a break. Our temps for this week will start to get our wet spots firmed up. We will only have temps in the single digits today and tomorrow with the rest of the week only with highs in the teens. We will have a low of -10 tonight and -9 tomorrow night.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority Report:
Trail 2 between Marenisco and Korpela Road has a two mile detour TFN due to a bridge washout. The rest of Trail 2 was groomed today and is in good condition. Trail 8 to Tula was groomed today and is in good condition. Trail 160 will be groomed Tuesday. Groomers are hoping with this cold weather they will be able to do a better job on this trail. Conditions are now poor to fair with some wet spots and be alert for logging operations. Trail 11 South is closed for the season due to logging. Trail 11N still has not been groomed due to the wet spots but they are hoping to get this groomed on Tues. I will have a better report for you tomorrow.

Lake Gogebic Groomer’s Report:
More snow, again, last night and we’re finally seeing temperatures drop to a better grooming degree. However, most of our trails still have some major water concerns. Trail 8 west has several water areas and is pretty rough as the groomers have not been able to get through most of it over this last week. Trail 13 south has some very wet areas towards the south end and 1 south and 100 also have wet areas. 102 has become very difficult to ride as, again, the wet areas opening up over the last couple of weeks have created problems. 13 north is rideable but there will be some very wet spots you’ll have to cross in some areas of this trail. 1 north and 8 east are the best trails we have at this time. With the much colder temps finally here it should help a lot with these areas, but it will take time. These are not just problems facing our groomer drivers as there are loggers in our area that are facing entire roadways washed out in the woods. Hang in there, we’re doing everything we possibly can to get our trails to where they should be. While we have been out grooming that does not mean all the trails have been able to be groomed. We’re doing the ones that we can and working hard to get the others to the point where we can groom them.

Watch for signs to show a change on trail 1 South from Rd. 8800 to Marenisco.

The Watersmeet Groomer’s report:
Groomers are running daily and the trails are in good shape! There are areas with wet spots where caution is still needed!

CAUTION on Trail 3 south of Bond Falls Rd there is a wet area in the middle of the trail PLEASE RIDE WITH CAUTION!

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Groomers have the right of way.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
