Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 12/08

Even with some pretty extreme cold temperatures we continue to have problems with mud on quite a few areas on our trails. The good news is that the groomers have been out – where it’s possible to groom – and we have more cold predicted through this upcoming week along with snow. Keep in mind that the majority of our trails run through forests, not roads, giving us a different set of challenges than some other trail areas in the U.P. At this present time most of our trails are in poor condition…hopefully that will be improving through this upcoming week. If you are planning on coming up make sure to pack long johns and layer up; we’re talking high’s of 0 degrees for a couple of days this week! Also be mindful that a bridge on trail 8, just east of Bergland is out and it is marked. The trail will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake where the trail was a couple years ago. With varied trail reports coming out from other sources the info can get confusing…just remember – George is the Trail Boss, I am the Secretary/Treasurer of Gogebic Area Grooming and as such our groomer drivers report directly to us. We also take reports from riders in the area; between the two I will always give you honest reports every time. These are the only official trail reports from the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce as well as Gogebic Area Grooming. That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. I will keep you posted as often as conditions change. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit the only official website of the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). Looking forward to seeing you all up again soon!

Paradise Area Trail Report – 12/07

The snow has landed!!!!

We got a good 4-5 inches last night and we are under a lake effect snow watch for the rest of today. ‘They’ are calling for up to 8 inches of lake effect for today and the temps to remain cold for at least another week…..yea hawwww!!!

As for the trail conditions. The gates remain closed for the Falls trail and our trails that go south through the swamps for obvious reasons. If its not obvious to you, let me explain…..WATER! We do have a good 8 inches of snow on the ground but the water holes have to freeze up yet in the famous spots. Thats what the gates are for….to keep YOU safe and dry and not stuck in a mud hole of 1000 yr old frog poo! So respect the closed gates please, we will open them as soon as possible. I promise!!

The trails that run north and west are ridable (trail 8) but be careful, there are still some water holes open and some sticks and branches that poke up.

The groomers are all ready to go but we have some brushing and signing to still get done. This Sunday or Monday we are planning to get the machines out and about and set the trails and work on the open water holes, fun, fun, fun!!

Soooo, stay tuned. It looks like we`ll be ridin before Christmas this year as long as the weather holds UP. Yea hawww!!! LET ER SNOW!!!! and stay cold
