Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 02/19

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open. The groomers are out working on the the trails however with the high winds there is drifting and poor visibility. Trails have been in very good condition. There is some logging being done on trails 122 & 133 so please watch for the signs and be aware.


Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula – February 18

This was the Keweenaw Convention and Visitor’s Bureau yesterday afternoon…

The CopperDog 150 sled dog race will be held on portions of the snowmobile trail system March 1 through March 3. Please use caution and take advantage of alternate routes.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Remember to watch out for the groomers and deer when you’re out on the trails…..they have the right of way!!

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.

Snowfall & Weather Report:
Houghton county – 29 inches on the ground, 129.75 inches fallen to date as of 2/18/13.
Keweenaw county – 35 inches on the ground, 180 inches fallen to date as of 2/18/13.

Drummond Island Trail Report – 02/20

2/20/13 UPDATE: We didnt lose much snow with the recent rain we got the other night. There are some areas where water has been running on the trails so watch for icy conditions. We also got a couple of inches of fresh snow after the rain. All in all they trails seem to still be in good condition. I will update this tomorrow as soon as I know more. He is trying to not groom until tomorow to give the water/ really wet snow a chance to freeze up good as he could do more damage than good when the snow is to wet.

Base: 5 inches

Snowfall Past 24 hours: 2 inches

Last Grooming: 2/18/13

Current Trail Conditions: Good to Excellent

2013 INTERNATIONAL ICE BRIDGE TO CANADA:

The Ice Bridge is set to OPEN SOON.

The tree line running between Drummond Island and Canada is scheduled to officially open on Friday, FEBRUARY 15th @ 2PM.

U.S. Customs officials will be manning the Island offices starting Feb. 15th at 2PM. Hours will be Friday/Saturday/Sunday from 2PM – 10PM each day. Before you cross make sure you have the appropriate ID paperwork.
