Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 02/21

We still have a Winter Storm Warning for today. Our forecast for today calls for wind and snow with a high of 23 and a low of 1. Snowfall varies across the region. Any where from a foot of snow in the Ironwood area to 3 inches in the Watersmeet area.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Groomers will be going out to get the trails back in shape as soon as they can. Trails are in fair condition until groomers can get out on the trails. We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing. Groomers will be out getting the trails. We are happy to report less snowmobile traffic riding on the railroad tracks through Merriweather and Bergland. There are a lot of snowmobile tracks running on the railroad tracks and it can get confusing…but don’t follow blindly along other snowmobile tracks. When in doubt, look for trail signs. If you see an R/R sign, guess what? You’re on a railroad track! Get off of it ASAP!! You could get stuck on the tracks and you could get a ticket for riding on them.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing. Trails are in very good condition. Come out and getting some great riding in.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.

Call our snowmobile report at 800-522-5657 anytime.
