Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 03/06

March 6th, 2014 – Trails in the Lake Gogebic area remain in very good to excellent condition. We’re expecting temps to top out all the way into the forties for just a couple of days early next week but then drop right back into the 20’s for highs and mostly teens for lows…perfect temps to get out and enjoy our beautiful scenery! We still have lots and lots of snow, enough for at least another week of snowmobiling, maybe longer. Some weather reports say we’re in for another blast of winter late next week, so winter is not done with us yet. So come on up and enjoy some late season riding on our expertly groomed trails, with reasonable temperatures and some beautiful winter scenery.

Keep in mind that the deer are moving around more and more on the snowmobile trails due to the extremely deep snow, so keep an eye open for them. Never run behind them as they don’t have the lungs for long, fast running. Come to a stop and enjoy watching them for a bit. If they don’t immediately move off just try slowly approaching them, that’ll usually do the trick.

Another reminder to please stay off the railroad tracks. This can be dangerous, it is against the law and you will be fined for riding on the tracks. The snowmobile trails are in way too good of condition to have any excuse not to stay on them.

Be sure to pick up a copy of the newest edition of the Gogebic Times, put out by the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce, which can be found at most local businesses. Not only will you find a snowmobile map and a lake map but there are some really great articles about snowmobile riding in our beautiful area. Not to mention some really great articles about the Lake Gogebic area and lots of great information for year round fun. Take one or two home with you, there free of cost to all.

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. I will keep you posted as often as conditions change. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit the only official website of the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). Hope we see you up for some great late season riding…it’s a blast!

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 03/06

The warm up is here. High temps through Saturday will be in the low to mid 30’s and upper 30’s on Sunday. Lows will be in the teens. Because of low traffic, the trails are awesome. Now is the time to enjoy some great riding.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – All trails are freshly groomed and in very good condition. The DNR reports that trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing. No problems to report on the system except some snowmobilers are riding on the railroad tracks through Merriweather and Bergland. The snowmobile trail runs parallel to the tracks and some are mistaking the trail. WATCH for the snowmobile trail signs as you WILL be ticketed for riding on the tracks.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Grooming is ongoing. Trails are in excellent condition. Come out and get some great riding in.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
