Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 12/04

Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce – 12/4/2013

The weather is looking good for our start up to the snowmobile season. We’ve presently had approx. a foot of snow all totaled over the last few days and it’s been snowing for most of today. And…good news, we’ve also got the cold temperatures we so need in the forecast starting mid-week this week. Groomers have started out on some trails (no drags yet) just to start “panking the trails down” (you all know that term by now).

News update! The groomers will be going out, with drags, by Thursday, Friday at the latest. They should be able to cover about 80% of our trail system at this time. However, caution on trails 1 south and 13 south as they will be very wet. The other trails should be ride able; however, we do caution you that this is early season riding and it is never the best. Also, remember to please stay on marked trails only – riding off trail will jeopardize our landowner’s easements and possible result in closed trails. *Watch for a possible reroute on trail 102 due to logging, this would only be a temporary reroute. Please remember groomer etiquette; please pull aside to let them pass, it’s much easier to pull a sled out of deep snow than it is to pull a groomer out. They will pull over when possible, but we really appreciate your help in keeping the groomers going.

We are awaiting the arrival of our new groomer, so it won’t be long and we’ll be back to our usual 3 groomers covering our trail system.

Also be mindful that a bridge on trail 8, just east of Bergland is out and it is marked. The trail will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake where the trail was a couple years ago.

With varied trail reports coming out from other sources the info can get confusing…just remember – George is the Trail Boss, I am the Secretary/Treasurer of Gogebic Area Grooming and as such our groomer drivers report directly to us. We also take reports from riders in the area; between the two I will always give you honest reports every time. These are the only official trail reports from the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce as well as Gogebic Area Grooming.

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop. I will keep you posted as often as conditions change. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area we invite you to visit the only official website of the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call us at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). Looking forward to seeing you all up again soon!

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/02

Our snowmobile season has officially opened, but we need Old Man Winter to co-operate more. The weather over the weekend was in the 30’s and without new snow groomers couldn’t get out and do their thing. It is early season riding expect a lot of mud and wet spot. Our swamps need some cold weather to freeze up.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority went out this weekend and rolled trails 2 and 8 as much as they could. Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco has a lot of mud and water. The swamps are still open. Trail 8 is early season riding and trail 160 is open but is again early season riding. Mud and water…. For more info on GRTA click on www.gogebicrangetrailauthority.com

We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Waiting for colder weather and more snow so they can get out and groom.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: No official report from Watersmeet but again it is still too early to get out and groom. We need more snow and colder weather.
