Gaylord Area Trail Report – VisitGaylord.com – 01/08

The Gaylord area has picked up about 8 inches of snow during the week and the forecast calls for 8 to 12 inches on Thursday night and Friday. Groomers are heading out to get the trails in shape for the weekend.

Sledheads of Frederic – 01/08

Lets ride, the time is here and there is a storm predicted for today yet..That all sounds good to me. The sled count is steadily going up. Its now 1:45 and I just walked in the door here in Frederic. We were open first thing this morning but I have been at our weekly Century 21 meeting which took a while longer than usual this week. I am expecting a busy weekend even though we could still use more snow. I am certain the feelings are nobody wants to wait anymore so that means it wont take long to tear the trails up but that is how it goes. So we are finally off a running. You know its winter when the kids in Grayling start riding their sleds to school. I just took this picture outside of the Grayling HIgh School. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/08

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are officially open. The groomers are out working on the trailsand they are in good to very good condition.

Any trail usage should be done with extreme care until we have better snow cover as there are rocks, stumps, branches and wet areas not covered by snow and hazards that have not been identified.

The Portage Lake Lift Bridge will be closed on January 17th from 9 pm until 6 am. The protective mat on the Portage Lift Bridge between Houghton and Hancock will not be installed until the middle of January. It is safe to cross the on the metal grating and will do no damage to your sled, just please drive carefully until the mat is installed.

Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails, they have the right of way!!

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Please be aware that if you snowmobile on U.S. Coast Guard property you could face federal trespass charges.
