Traverse City Trail Report – Blue Sky Snowmobile Rentals – 01/09

Snow is here ! We have gotten about a foot of snow over the past week. Most of the snow has been dry and blowing snow. The groomers are out on a daily basis now. base is pretty good overall with some shirty areas where the snow is minimal. Powerlines and seasonal roads are snow covered. The forecast calls for more snow in the next couple of days with cold temps so the trails should be in good shape for the weekend and into next week. On a side note: Blue Sky is offering Brand New 600 MXZ sport snowmobiles this year. We have also purchased a few new 2up machines as well. We are located behind Peegeo’s Restaurant on Trail 5. You can also find Blue Sky Rentals on Facebook. I will update the report again in a couple of days as I hope to get out and put a few miles on this weekend as well. Please be careful out there, you never know if the groomer, another sled or wildlife is right around the next corner.

Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 01/09

January 9th, 2015 – We received about a foot of new snow from Thursday evening to Friday am! Lots of new white stuff to play in for everyone!! And the other bit of good news is trail 102 has now been groomed completely through and we’re very happy to report no more wet spots due in large part to the hard work of our groomer drivers, mechanics and volunteers, but also due to the extreme cold we’ve been shivering through all week. In fact, word is that there are no more wet spots on any of our trails…just in time for a busy weekend. All trails are being groomed on a rotating basis. With more cold weather expected maybe we won’t have any more of the problems we battled in Deeember.

You can legally ride any county road that does not get plowed, but check with the Forest Service for a map to these roads. They have a waterproof one for $10.00. Call 906-932-1330 or go to www.fs.usda.gov/ottawa for more info.

The new snowmobile maps are out and available at most local businesses. Please remember that only money put into the wooden map money boxes with the photo of the groomers on it goes back to the trails – so please be aware of this and watch for this.

That’s all for now from Carolyn at the Hoop! Keep checking back for more updates as conditions change. For additional information about the Lake Gogebic area please visit the chamber website at www.LakeGogebicArea.com or call them at 1-888-464-3242 (888-GOGEBIC). Have a great day and a great ride.
