The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are officially open. The groomers are out and the trails are in good to very good condition. The mat on the Portage Lift Bridge is down.

Due to weather and traffic there are a few bare spots south of the bridge so please use caution.

Trail 122 to Gay is closed for logging until further notice. Alternate routes to Gay are trails 124 and 133.

Remember to watch out for the groomers when you’re out on the trails, they have the right of way!!

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, please, drive safely. The signs on the snowmobile trails are there for the riders’ safety. Please, DO NOT remove or destroy these signs.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/28

Temperatures will be in the low 30’s today and high 28’s tomorrow and then back down in the teens through the weekend.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority Groomers Report:
All three groomers are down but they hope to have them up and running Thursday and Friday. The trails are in poor to fair condition now and they anticipate getting them in better shape for the weekend.

Lake Gogebic Groomer’s Report:
Temps will be a little warmer until Wednesday, and then cold sets in for the weekend. With the few inches of new snow and all trails groomed in the last 24 hours, the trails are in good condition. VERY IMPORTANT: Watch for the reroute where trails 1, 102 and 8 West meet, north of Merriweather going west for about 5 miles. Watch for changes and new signing. There will be many pipeline workers plus a lot of heavy equipment in the area. This reroute will continue to the end of the season. You may also want to top off your gas if headed north through this area as the reroute will add an extra ten miles (there and back) to your trip with no gas stops between Lake Gogebic and Silver City.

The Watersmeet Groomer’s report:
Our groomers are running daily and trails are all groomed. Trail 2 east of Watersmeet is in good to very good condition. Trail 2 west of Watersmeet is in good to very good condition, use caution on corners through out the woods they may be icy. Trail 13 south is in good to very good condition with icy corners. Trial 3 north is in good to very good condition with icy corners.

Please follow the orange barrels and stay on trail going across Cisco Chain.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Groomers have the right of way.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
