Cadillac Area Trail Report – 02/16

CADILLAC AREA UPDATE via Coyote Crossing Resort – 02/16

TRAIL BASE: zero
TRAIL CONDITIONS: Fair
NEW SNOW LAST 24 HRS: 5-6″

Hello Sledders!

We finally got some snow!! Looks pretty again, but obviously there was no base under this 5-6″ of fresh snow. Trails are all white and covered, but could hear rocks underneath without a base. Felt like a first ride of the year in early December, when riding last night … according to our son who checked out the trails.

Forecast doesn’t look great after this weekend, so if you choose to ride, just remember the conditions.

There has been some wheeled vehicle traffic in this warmer weather we’ve had, so be cautious that some ruts could be prevalent on the trails.

THINK SNOW!

– Pete

Cadillac Area Trail Report – 01/22

CADILLAC AREA UPDATE via Coyote Crossing Resort – 01/22

TRAIL BASE: 0-3″
TRAIL CONDITIONS: Fair – Good
NEW SNOW LAST 24 HRS: 0″

Hello Sledders –

Wow!!! What a massive amount of sleds we had on our trail system this past week!!!

Coyote enjoyed one of our busiest single days ever, on Saturday and we greatly appreciate the much needed business! I’m hoping other area businesses saw the same kind of traffic we did, as recreational income is so important to Cadillac.

I’m sure many of you experienced some rough trails throughout the wknd, and Cadillac Winter Promotions is doing it’s best to bring them back to as close to flat as possible. Winter Promotions has several new groomer drivers, who have needed training, so there were a few missed shifts over the past week. As of midday Monday, as I’m writing this, the entire system has been groomed in the last 24 hours.

Today I rode south to LeRoy and found conditions on Trail 35 and 5 to be quite good. Trails around Coyote, Lost Pines, Boon & Caberfae are quite beat up. The bigger trail corridors are still in better than average conditions, but the tight sections within Trails 37 & 6 are really rough due to little snow to work with; ie: no base.

Unfortunately, there is a warm up is in our future :(. Heavy snow is expected late tonight through Tuesday night, accumulating 3-6″. I am planning to go out and groom tomorrow morning for my regular weekly shift, but expecting Groomers to be grounded by Wednesday as warm temps and possible rain are forecast later this week.

Unlike John Dee was, I am not a meteorologist and have no real foresight into weather conditions. So what you see on weather apps, is the same as I know! Fingers crossed that this next warm-up is minimal and doesn’t destroy our trails.

There was a terrible accident on Friday in West Cadillac, crossing M-55. Our thoughts and prayers go out to to all of those involved, although we don’t have an updated status on the injured person.

THINK SNOW! RIDE RIGHT! BE SAFE!

– Pete
