Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/05

Our weather looks promising to get our trails in good shape. We have gotten 5 inches of new snow and a total of 11 inches on the ground. 11 degrees will be our high for today with single digits for the weekend. Temps at night will be below zero, which will firm things up.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority – Reports they have been out rolling trails 2 and 8. Trail 2 from Bessemer to Ironwood was done last night and is good condition. Trail 2 from Bessemer to Marenisco will be groomed today along with Trail 8 from Bessemer to Tula. Trail 11 N is unable to be groomed yet; Trail 160 is getting prepped for grooming. We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter. There are wet spots on all trails so please use caution. Remember while you will find some good conditions it is still early season riding.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Groomers are out panking with hopes of going out with the drags weather permitting. Use caution on Trails 1 and 13S they will be very wet. All other trails are ride able but remember it is early season riding. Watch for a possible reroute on Trail 102 due to logging. Also watch for signs posted on the bridge out on Trail 8, east of Bergland, it will be rerouted over the dam at the north end of the lake. This is marked so use caution in this area.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: Panning was done on most of the trails; some were unable to be panned due to wet areas. There are wet spots throughout the trails so please use caution. Trail 2 east is good along with Trail 3S to Land O Lakes. Trail 3N to Bond Falls expect some wet spots.

Please keep in mind the groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, Please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/02

Our snowmobile season has officially opened, but we need Old Man Winter to co-operate more. The weather over the weekend was in the 30’s and without new snow groomers couldn’t get out and do their thing. It is early season riding expect a lot of mud and wet spot. Our swamps need some cold weather to freeze up.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority went out this weekend and rolled trails 2 and 8 as much as they could. Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco has a lot of mud and water. The swamps are still open. Trail 8 is early season riding and trail 160 is open but is again early season riding. Mud and water….
We have gotten word from the DNR trail 11S will be closed due to logging this winter.

The Lake Gogebic groomer’s report: Waiting for colder weather and more snow so they can get out and groom.

The Watersmeet groomer’s report: No official report from Watersmeet but again it is still too early to get out and groom. We need more snow and colder weather.
