Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/09

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 2/9

Still nothing worth getting excited about, still poor conditions around
Frederic, I did see 4 sleds over at the swamp yesterday so at least someone was trying. From what I hear trail 7 from Grayling to Gaylord is bad, 679 is bad but according to Steve and Karen 79 to Dingmans and starvation lake was good……There is a prediction for snow for the next couple of days but we need a good 4 to 6 inches miniumun to make it even a passable ride…….you know, blah, blah, blah……below are a few more pics from my trip north this past weekend……Thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

FROM Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> 📡 Statewide radar loop through 10 AM today (11/9) shows our two distinct snowmakers in progress.
The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/07

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 2/7

It’s amazing, what is this white fluff in the air here in Frederic? While it looks good I dont think it will add up to much but still nice to see it falling. On saturday after six hours of being here in the shop and only 3 people coming in I had enough and put the closed sign up and loaded my sled and headed to the Soo where finally after all the years in here I caught the last ten laps of the I 500. Met up with my brother and Tim and we spent the night there and then off to Strongs sunday morning and rode to Hulbert and back and then to St Ignace where we rode the ice bridge over to the island. That was a good ride but as soon as we got on the island I heard a siren and I was wondering where that was coming from. I was getting stopped for not getting the island permit which is $5……no big deal just fill out a slip and we were on our way. Lunch at the Mustang Lounge and a trip around the island. Good snow there and the snow in downtown at the Soo was almost had the parking meters buried. Trails at Strongs and Hulbert were good too. Winter is definetly going on up there. After leaving the island and heading back Tim lost the aluminun ramp from his clam shell trailer somewhere between downtown St Ignace and Vanderbilt. So if anyone was heading back after about 4 yesterday south on 75 and came across an 5 foot wide aluminum ramp with black ski slides on it please let me know. We probably wouldnt have known about the missing ramp till we got back to Frederic but some dummy ran out of gas and had to get pulled into Vanderbilt…..(name withheld by request). Thanks for checking in. Pete
