Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 03/10

Heading north, that’s what you have to do if you want to ride.

Snow is gone from the woods and the trails in Frederic. I am surprised still at the calls and messages I am getting wondering if there is rideable snow. The weather man said we may get 1 to 2 inches by tomorrow but that wont help a bit.

On the other hand the u.p. is a different story. I just got off the phone with Andy at the Clarke Motel and he said that they are full and the whole town is full of riders and last night I talked to Mark at the Fox River Motel in Seney and he said their full along with town.

So riding is still going on up there. Ohio Brian and I are heading up early in the morning for the Veterans Ride out of Seney. Two guys stopped in here yesterday to buy a helmet and were heading to Grand Marais. I talked to them last night and they were at the Lake Superior Brewing company and that there were sleds across the street getting gas and there was still 2 and a half feet of snow up there.

So it appears that if you want to get another ride in head about 2.5 to 3 hours north of Frederic and you will get er done. I also was told that Paradise is done grooming up there so I wouldn’t go up to there. That’s about the best I can tell you for now. I took the picture out my front door about 10 a.m. Friday morning. Thanks for checking in and watch for live videos via my Sledheads facebook page providing I have service up there. Pete — http://frederic-mi.com/heading-north/

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 03/06

It’s 42 and drizzly out at about noon on Monday in Frederic.

Snow is pretty mushy but there are two sleds over at the swamp right now. They were in here a bit ago and said they had rode here from Starvation Lake.

Only time will tell if we will get enough snow for one more ride. Right now I think we are done again until then. I took a first timer out for a ride yesterday. He has been a long time friend and we did a nice little 30 mile ride around Frederic and up to the Keg in waters for lunch. Corey puts out a pretty big burger there.

We came across a sled that had the a arm and ski pushed all the way back on it setting along old 27. I stopped and looked at it and was wondering what it had hit as I couldn’t see anything around it and then the light went off in my head. I walked over to the tracks and could see exactly what happened. He was riding down the side of the tracks and the a arm caught on a railroad tie, did a complete flip and landed upright on the tail light and then they ended up in the middle of the tracks.

This all goes back to STAY AWAY FROM THE RAILROAD TRACKS. Enough said on that. I will go back to every couple days updates until something comes up good in the snow department. Thank you to the many people that stopped in this past winter….Its always fun seeing familiar faces and a bunch of new ones too……Thanks for checking in. Pete — http://frederic-mi.com/42-and-drizzly/
