Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/12

We had another whole inch of lake effect overnight. Conditions still are pretty darn good for the amount of snow we have had. The cold is what is saving us. Groomers have been out, had great reports on jordan valley, and all the way up to the bridge. North of gaylord to the bridge there is more snow, Alanson is good, Grayling is good, trail to Lovells is good……and its presidents weekend which makes it a long one. If only the polar vortex would dump a foot of snow on us.

Big John made the run to the bridge yesterday and said they had a great ride. I was just leaving the shop here at five last night and he pulled up on his sled and was at 185 miles for the day so far with 8 miles to go home. I should have went with him. Pics below are for him and also Dave Klemish who stopped by yesterday with his crew on their way from Lewiston. Do some snow chanting and maybe we will get some system snow instead of lake effect.

Thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

FROM Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> 📡 Statewide radar loop through 10 AM today (11/9) shows our two distinct snowmakers in progress.
The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/11

It’s still cold and very few flakes around. Trails are still pretty decent, I rode 36 miles yesterday mostly around Lake Margrethe and behind camp grayling. I even found spots that were 8 to ten inches of untouched snow. All in all a really good 2.5 hour ride.

My buddy Big John is riding up to the bridge today and I hear north of gaylord has had much better snow.

The system snow predicted for friday has now dissapeared. Also exciting news for downtown Frederic with the opening this morning of A Better Place Bakery & Cafe. They are located just south of the Frederic Inn and next to the post office. I stopped and bought some scones and a big fat blue berry muffin. So next time you are up here stop in and check them out. Ironically I am wearing my shirt that says The Polar Vortex is our friend….I just wish our friend would drop some snow on us.

Thanks for checking in. Pete
