Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/25

It’s a sunny and cold 9 degrees in downtown Frederic this thursday morning. The warmth of yesterday hasn’t done us any favors but I have to say that trail crossings that I looked at this morning looked way better than I thought they would. No forecast for new snow or at least not much of it. I think there will be riders this weekend but I do not see conditions getting much better than they are now…

I have seen 2 sleds thru town already this morning.. Pics below I took this morning. Last year we had no riding at all in March, I certainly hope that doesn’t happen again this year.

Thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

FROM Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> 📡 Statewide radar loop through 10 AM today (11/9) shows our two distinct snowmakers in progress.
The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey

Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/24

It’s now noon on wednesday and conditions have been heading downhill. Hard to tell what of if things will make it to the weekend. I took off yesterday morning and drove down to Cadillac where I unloaded my sled and rode over to Wellston to my cabin.

Cadillac trails were as perfect as you could ask for but when it turned to the Wellston trails not so great. Had a good visit with Cameron who bought the little store in Boon on the trail. That is on the Cadillac trail system then headed off toward Caberafe and on to Wellston. Stopped at the cabin and it was a nice temp out like 37 I figured I would light the fire and spend the night. Headed off to lunch in Wellston and the was going to try for Bretheren and Kaleva……things got to bad so I turned around and went back.

Got up this morning and rode back to my truck in Cadillac where things had really gone downhill since I left there yesterday. All in all a nice 100 mile ride but could have done without some of the dirt I hit this morning. Time will tell what this weekend brings.

Thanks for checking in. Pete
