Ontonagon Trail Report – 12/17

We did suffer some snow depth loss with the warm nights that we had. The good news is that our trails did not lose all their snow.-soft & watery. The next good news is that we are back in business. Since 12/15/14 at 4AM until now, we have received colder temps (YEA) and somewhere between 7 and 10 inches new snow. Hard to tell because of blowing. According to reports, we should be continuing to receive more. Our groomers did run last night and accomplished as much as possible, avoiding wet areas to give it more time to freeze up again. Snowmobiles running over these areas is a good thing to help get these places frozen solid again.

We will update here as reports come in even tho it could mean reporting more than once a day. AND we’ll try real hard to keep our thumbtack green.

If you have any questions on conditions between these reports, 906-288-3404 and we’ll tell you the best we can.

Under trail conditions on the right side of this page we aren’t given in-between choices to click but in our 138 miles, we go from fair to very good conditions. Trail #3 is very good.

Thinking we might have to do the Heikki Lunta dance again this year.

To date, official NOAA snowfall for Twin Lakes is 89 inches.

Have fun & be safe. Ride with caution at all times.

Ontonagon Trail Report – 12/11

12/11/14 @ 1o:10AM I woke at 12:30AM could hardly believe it was 6 degrees-looked twice to make sure. Woke up again at 3:30 and it was 19 degrees. It is now mid-morning and the temp is 22.8. Groomers ran on schedule again last night-so far our snow base is holding. It is really helpful that our groomer go out at night-cold temps and they freeze in place and it helps get thru the next day if temps are warmer. It is overcast today, beautiful thick frost on trees.

We’ll try to keep you abreast of temps, etc. As it stands, in our grooming area, our hard base of 17 inches will get us thru Sat. & Sun if the temps are above freezing.

We started out so good last year that we expect a repeat. What we are going thru is what is normal for Decembers.
