Ontonagon Trail Report – 01/25

Trail Update – We groomed all our trails last night except Trail 11N. (South Boundary Rd.), Trail 12 between Ontonagon and Greenland and Trail 137 (the railroad grade). We have a groomer down right now with parts for repair due to us tomorrow.

Right now, our trails are in good to excellent condition, and we are hoping to hit all 110 miles tonight, but due to warm weather coming, it doesn’t look like we will be grooming Friday night.
We are smokin’ busy up here already! The local restaurant has a parking lot full of sleds for lunch today. No matter how well we prepare, the trails will be beaten down on Saturday, sorry! We will be back out in force on Saturday night.

Current caution notes:

– Use caution on Trail 1 going up the hill up to Lake of the Clouds. The winding corners are getting icy and it is hard for us to fix them on that steep grade.

– Trail 13 – there is one icy banked corner that the groomer operator was not able to fix last night. Please slow down into the corners on this trail and maintain control to stay on your side, especially coming out of Rockland on the big hill after the Trail 137 junction.

Folks – if the weather forecast holds it’s going to get to 45 degrees tomorrow. We run through swamps, ditches and some low areas. PLEASE READ THE CAUTION NOTES BELOW-

– Trail 12 – just East of the Trail junction with Trail 1 outside White Pine (along LP Walsh Rd.). We rode this yesterday and some of the ice bridges in the low spots are getting narrow. We are going to have to unhook the groomer and do some major repair to these. With this warm-up coming tomorrow, they may not hold. Please slow down and go into these low spots with extreme caution. There is open water on both sides of most of them and one narrow marked bridge.

– Trail 12 along the Norwich Road – ride with caution in the ditch sections for the same reason.

– Trail 12 from Norwich to Ontonagon – same issue – we had open water in some low spots with the last warm up and they will probably open up again.

– Trail 12 from Ontonagon to Greenland – we had two wet spots on this section during early season. They did not open up for the last warm-up, but may this time.

Ontonagon Trail Report – 01/24

Trail Update – Mornin’ Sled Heads, we still have a groomer down waiting for parts, but our operators are amazing and managed to get all 110 miles of our trails groomed last night.

Thanks to our President, Randy, for putting in some long hours – you da man!!

Trails should be pristine with the 6-8" of new snow and a nice cold temp last night to set the base.
