Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 11/30

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming –

Well tomorrow is the first day of 2019-2020 snowmobile season. All we can say is we have snow and more is coming. This is great for us to work with, but we need a little time to make a great trail. Working hard on opening what we can.

Trail 13 south – From trail 8 to trail 2 was broke open.

Trail 1 from Bergland to White Pine was broken open.

Trail 100 was broke open from FS8800 to 100

Trail 13 north was broke open from Bergland to Trail 101 intersection.

Trail 8 to Ewen was packed and little thin next to the fields.

And trail 102 will be broken open again tomorrow.

Again they are open, and the answer to all your questions! Can I ride? The answer is yes, but it’s at your own risk.

*The biggest Pain in our a*% trail, trail 8 west from Merriweather to tula is a talk every year. * Note to all, a ditch is between the trail and the highway. The closer to the woods the higher the ground is. We are getting sleds to pack the trail so we can hopefully get a groomer though it. Also the more traffic on that trail the faster our groomers can get on it. The sleds freeze the trail to keep us above water.

Seeing all our Neighboring clubs are busting there butts too getting trails open as well. This takes a lot of work to make what you love to ride GREAT….. Great job guys and keep up all the good work!!

See you soon and we’ll keep you posted!

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming –

11-28-19 – Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at Gogebic Area Grooming.

Haven’t posted much lately, but we’re out breaking trails the last two weeks. We got some Significant snowfall around the Lake Gogebic area. Now we all know they’re some diehards out there, and come the 1st of December, you’re going to want to ride. Even though the trails are open, we still have a lot of work to do. If you do ride, wet spots and tough terrain are on the trails. It’s a ride at your own risk this early in the game.

Please take note to the changes to our following trails. Some are temporarily changed and some are permanently changed

Trail 102 has a new reroute about 4 miles before trail 11. The trail is marked well and the reroute was a very nice turn out. However it sounds like it will change again next year. (Temporary)

Trail 13 north is now rerouted. You will now start on trail 13 towards Rockland from trail 8 just East of Bergland. (Permanent)

Trail 13 south has logging. The first part of December, you will have to run East Shore road all the way past the Root Cellar. When the logging is done, we can open it back up. We where advised that this might be into the first of the year before they are done. The loggers advised us that they would work as hard as they can you help us get our trail back in use. (Temporary) Past the Root Cellar, we also have more logging. You will have to travel on East Shore Rd approximately 2 mile further then before to get back onto trail 13. A new reroute will take place. We ask you to follow the signs posted and marked 13. (Permanent for 2019-2020 season)

Trail 100 is also in the logging process. This is between Stagecouch Rd and the slate river (vary end of Lake Gogebic) Good News though, we got Marshall Creek Bridge Fixed and we can get to Marenisco from trail 100. (Permanent for 2019-2020 season)

Trail 1 from Trail 100 to trail 8 is closed until further notice. Logging is also taking place until the end of December. You still can access the Gogebic Lodge and we plan to maintain it up to the lodge so we can get up and running to open trail 1. We are in the process to do a reroute to the Ethalwood Grade and up to M-28 onto trail 8. We will keep you posted when this opens as well. (Temporary)

As of right now the only way to get from Bergland to Marenisco is take trail 13 to 100 to Marenisco or 13 to trail 2. DO NOT ride Lake Gogebic in the beginning of season. The ice just went on a few weeks ago!!!

Marenisco area is in good shape far as where the trails are going to stay from the past years.

Please pass this on to fellow snowmobilers to warn them about the different trails they may not be used to. We will mark this the best we can, and we ask of the sledders if they find a spot confusing to let us know so we can fix it right away.

Stay safe and have a Happy Thanksgiving 🍽🦃
