March 12th, 2014 – Even with temps in the 50’s the other day we still have plenty of snow for great riding conditions. Groomers are out during the night hours and with temps dipping below zero last night the trails are in really great condition. Riders in the area are raving about the trails! You may find some bare spots where trails cross roadways, as is normal for this time of the year. It looks like we’ll be down into the 20’s for highs and around zero for lows for this upcoming weekend with a good chance of snow, so the riding should continue to be good at least through another weekend. Even with the expected highs in the 30’s next week the groomer drivers will still be able to groom at night with expected lows in the teens. Like I said, we’ve got lots of snow…still. In prior years, with this much snow at this time of the year, we’ve seen snow on the ground (in the shade) into June! No kidding! Hope to see you up soon for another great ride. We’re happy to add that reports from DNR trail inspections on our trails are all coming back as “impeccably groomed”!
Keep in mind that the deer are moving around more and more on the snowmobile trails due to the extremely deep snow, so keep an eye open for them. We’ve had several reports from snowmobilers in the area about this. Never run behind them as they don’t have the lungs for long, fast running. Come to a stop and enjoy watching them for a bit. If they don’t immediately move off just try slowly approaching them, that’ll usually do the trick.
Another reminder to please stay off the railroad tracks. This can be dangerous, it is against the law and you will be fined for riding on the tracks. The snowmobile trails are in way too good of condition to have any excuse not to stay on them.
*Keep in mind that some businesses have begun their seasonal schedule so be sure to call ahead to make sure your favorite stop is open for business as usual.
Be sure to pick up a copy of the newest edition of the Gogebic Times, put out by the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce, which can be found at most local businesses.
