Grand Marais Trail Report – 12/19

12/19/14 – Things may be looking up for the next week and beyond. John Dee is reporting a possible 4′ or more of wet heavy snow to fall in our area by Monday the 22nd. Then up to 5+ or more over the next few days in time for the Christmas weekend.

Unfortunately, it’s still supposed to be in the 30’s. After that it’s still a guessing game. We need a lot of repeated or consistent cold temperatures to freeze down those water holes.

We don’t have enough snow to push into them to help the process. Once we start getting measurable snow, we can get back to work prepping the base.

Until then the flags still fly red to yellow.

Grand Marais Trail Report – 12/17

A quick report on trail conditions – poor to nonexistent! Over the weekend and the last several days we had temperatures in the high 30’s and low 40’s with rain.

Needless to say, most of the snow melted and there are huge water holes opened up on all the trails. What snow didn’t melt away, turned to sheer ice!

Ditches and creeks are running deep and fast. Starting late yesterday evening, we got enough snow to cover the ground in town. In the snowbelt, they got maybe 3 to 4 inches of snow. It’s going to take a while for everything to freeze down
again. We need a good SNOW STORM before I’d advise making the trip up.

As always, Ride Safe and Bring them Home Alive!
