Grand Marais Trail Report – Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. – 02/27

GRAND MARAIS UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc.

Was happy to hear Groomer Will made it off the trail ok. Here’s his report: Ran North Tuesday night, 8, 888 and 88. Trails themselves were not to bad, real narrow and easy to groom, so much snow to work with. 12 hours and 12 trees across the trail and all is well. There is one tree left about 4 miles south of H 58. I broke my saw and it was way too big to push so I built a temporary snow road over it. There is a confidence marker on one side and a wet area sign on the other as that’s all I had in the groomer for some kind of reflective warning. We will get it cut out as soon as possible. Be safe and enjoy. Groomer Will

We have a groomer heading out to 443 with 2 guys and extra chainsaws determined to get it done. The groomer originally on that trail this morning had to turn back due to more saw issues. Please be watching for them!!

Will is out on the north trail right now so be aware. This is what he just sent me. “Tree 2 in less than a half mile, gonna be a long day! North, started at 4 am not even 5 miles from town yet, woodland park took 2 hours, I will send full report when I get in. Its kinda fun being a lumber Jack!!!!”

Grand Marais Trail Report – Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. – 02/26

GRAND MARAIS UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc.

This just in from Groomer Phil -Trail 89 at the lake Superior look out. It’s a rough one lane. For 4 miles. Not sure I’ll get two lanes tonight. I’m only 3/4 into my first run out. At the Adams trail parking lot. Heading into the Mahoney.

Ok folks here it is…the good, the bad and the ugly!!! The only trail fully groomed last night was the east trail. Max left the barn at 5 last night and just got back (16.5 hours). Kudos to him. Joe headed west and got just past the log slide where there is a big tree down. Chainsaw broke down and the tree was too big to push so he got turned around and came back to the barn. So the west trail is only groomed to that point. Second shift: one driver decided to not go at all and the other called in sick at the last minute. Needless to say the groomer boss is not a happy camper this morning. Will let you know when more groomers head out. On a good note hopefully the Tucker will be back on the trail tonight. Again: north and south trails were not groomed. Sorry folks. ☹️

Yes…GM groomers are out. Be patient as they’re going to have their hands full with all the trees down and massive drifts. It will take more than 1 night to get the trails back in great shape but it will get done!!
