Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/26

19 degrees this morning under a clear blue sky. We had a light snow most of the day yesterday and it sure made everything all pretty and white again. The forecast for the forseeable future sure doesn`t look good for snowmobiling though. "They" are saying above average temps for March. This really sucks. We already have had a short season cause of the lack of snow, but nuttin we can do about the weather…..right? Here`s whats been going on the last couple of days…..

Sorry for no report yesterday but my router quit working and I couldn`t get online. By the time I got it fixed I had an appointment with a groomer. I ran the South trail #8 and will call it very good. The fresh snow turned the ugly brown color into a nice white. The swamp south of town even looked nice.
Mike H. ran the Point trails #452 and #453 and called them very good also, this is after some moron ran the entire trail in his pick-up truck. It was an older red Chevy with Ohio plates. He tore it up pretty good but Mike H. got `er all fixed up. He wanted to call them excellent but I just can`t do it cause there are still a few thin spots and I`m real persnickety when it comes to that word for the trails.

Gerald ran the Falls trail #45 and called that very good also.
Zach ran the Pine Stump trail #8 the day before. He`s not very good about lettin me know how things went (I gotta talk to him) but I know it is in good shape also. It is gonna be run again today. We are gonna run full speed for the weekend and then see what the weather brings. Lets hope the weather guessers are wrong but I have the feeling we are about done….bummer. Keep checking back and I`ll let ya know.

Groomer Chris

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Final snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula..... #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyFinal snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula.

No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.

Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. If you have any additional snowfall reports to add to the list that are not affected by drifting, drop them in the comments below here on X or Facebook. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard.

Paradise Area Trail Report – 02/22

26 degrees this morning and cloudy. I`m sure you`ve seen all the weather reports about warming up a touch for this week. Looks like into the 30`s for highs and upper 20`s for lows but the good news is a little snow (maybe) each day.

We were super busy all weekend trying to keep up with just 2 machines. Ran them almost around the clock. Hopefully the parts for the 3rd machine will show up today. We have tracked them and know they are in MI now. The factory mechanic is supposed to be here today. Once the parts are here he figures about 4 hrs and we`ll be back in business. Here`s how the trails look…….

To make a long story short…..WE NEED MORE SNOW!!!!! All the groomer guys are saying the same. Some sections are good while some are thin with snow and not so good. Everybody is talking about the “potholes” showing up. We can`t do nothing with the frozen ground. We can fill in the potholes with snow but 10 sleds later they are blown out. If you`re out riding you need to be aware of this and slow down a touch! The EMS services up here also wanted me to warn you about staying off the river mouth. I see sleds crossing the river south of town. This is VERY dangerous, don`t do it!!!!

Well…..all I have for today. Lets hope we can get our 3rd machine up and runnin today and we can get some snow so we can keep ridin!!!

LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Groomer Chris
