SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/20
Good evening!
Steve and his helper Chris made their run down 49 south to Devils Hill tonight. Looks a bit better than when groomer Jay and I hit it the other night so that’s good news!
Here’s his report- “Tonight Passenger Chris and I made our weekly trip down Trail 49.
We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the trails are. The recent warm weather has a lot of standing water both on and along the trails.
Our trail base is solid and holding up well to the water that is almost everywhere. The “Stay On Trail” theme we have been promoting all winter is more important than ever with the snow soft and slushy as soon as you get off the groomed portion. We worked with what we had and were really happy with the finished product.
Hopefully, everyone will drive for the conditions and stay safe out there. There is still lots of good riding even with the warm weather we have been battling all winter long. Steve Lawson”
Ride safe! New snow is coming and will do wonders to get this trail into excellent shape! ❄️❄️❄️

SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/20
Good morning all!
Groomer Pete hit the city trails after temps started falling last night. Here’s what he had to say-
“City trails are groomed. I timed my groom to coincide with temps falling below freezing. It seems as though todays warmup softened up the trail and allowed the drag to cut pretty well. The more heavily traveled trails groomed better.
The groom didn’t go too bad. The snow quality is poor, but the base is good. The snow is still very icy, so the trail is a little chunky and sugary. But, I only saw two sleds as of midnight, and the trail is actually setting up really well, very firm.
I pulled a lot of snow down into the corners that are burned down to ice.
We need fresh snow for sure. There were light LE flurries early, but they tapered off.
Thanks to the two riders on Ski-Doos I met on the trail tonight by the airport. perfect groomer courtesy with stopping just off the trail and waiting. I really appreciate that safety and etiquette!”
Thank you Pete!
Looking good! New snow arrives tonight into tomorrow. We really need it and it will make things excellent!❄️❄️❄️
