Another video from Pat for our off trail fans. There are some awesome spots to play in the Raco and Strongs areas. This is southwest of Raco on 12/12, before the new snow today!
Mid January conditions in early December. We are loving it! ❄️❄️❄️

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 12/12
12/12/2025
Winter storm warning has been issued! We are expecting fresh snow over most of our area. As of today, everything is as flat as if can be. The cold has really helped with the water holes and sleds are passing all areas easily.
Mike and our newest trainee just completed the city trails. We have made the decision to leave the city trails and trail 49 from the Soo to Kinross alone as far as grooming until Sunday. With fresh snow on top of a flat base, we think this is best for riders and will allow you to have snow for cooling vs a super hard packed trail, and will really help freeze up any remaining soft spots.
Our spare Tucker is running triple duty while we await a fix for our newer Tucker that has an electrical issue. This is another reason we have made this decision. Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley will be prioritized if it is determined that grooming is needed.
Our Raco, Bay Mills, Brimley, and Kinross south areas remain on the normal schedule.
Please see the pinned post regarding trail 480 and part of 572 in the Spile Dam area.

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 2/28/26 Good morning everyone! While we certainly didn’t need the warm and sun yesterday, our hard working volunteers were itching to go as soon as temps dropped. Our first report comes from Warren- “We went out at 1 AM. Club member Steve & myself at 27 degrees did 480 from the Spile Dam turnaround, and 8 all the way to Brimley and back as well as the electric lines. I think everybody’s gonna be real happy with that, it cleaned up really well. I finished up at about 19° and then left the Groomer for turbo. Turbo is gonna hit the 889 loop and Brimley grade so I think everybody will be ready to go by about 7:30 - 8 o’clock for all of our trails out this way.” Thank you, Warren & Steve!!❄️❄️❄️ Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley will be done tonight, the city trails were done yesterday, and will be done again tomorrow night. I’ll update when I hear from the Kinross crew as well, but I know that everything was done on Thursday ahead of the warm up. Be safe all and enjoy! Hope to see some of you at the Radar Run at The Cozy Corners Barbeau MI today! The fun starts at noon! See their page for more info! #soo #soo0228#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Strong westerly winds develop this afternoon and evening, with winds gusting up to 60 mph in the Keweenaw and 45 mph for the remainder of the northern UP near the Superior shoreline. Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Temperatures will plummet tonight, setting up a seasonably cold weekend with some light lake effect snow for the northwest wind belts. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea... SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 2/25/26 Good morning all! We didn’t end up with as much new snow as we wanted out of the system, but lake effect is lingering a bit. I show about 4” of new snow here in the Soo. It looks like just west us (Brimley/Raco) got a little more. Once operators are out rolling and send me updates, I’ll be sure to share! Thank you! #soo #soo0225#snowphotos2/25/26

Groomer Ken got out to play off trail in the Raco area today on the forest service roads. He said there’s lots of fluff and to be mindful off trail for stumps and rocks as the base on the off trail roads and 2 tracks is still building. Love when our volunteers get to get out and play a bit!
Thanks for sharing, Ken! ❄️❄️❄️

Hello everyone!
‼ Important trail notice!!! ‼
You may have seen us talk about the construction on trails 472 & 480 in the Spile Dam area between Raco, Rudyard, and Kinross.
There is MAJOR construction in there to build a brand new bridge, as well as build up the road (from sand/dirt to gravel). There is a ton of equipment in there.
While we do not have authority to close the trail, we are strongly advising that you avoid this area until further notice. The gate on the Raco end remains closed.
We cannot groom from Tilson road on 472 all the way to just the other side of the Raco gate on 480.
I wanted to share a visual on the map of where we are talking about. The green area in the rectangle is where we are asking you to avoid, for your own safety, and the safety of the contractors.
Expected completion is sometime in January, weather depending. We will update as we learn more.
I’ll pin this post so that it’s easy to reference.
