Gaylord Area Trail Report – 12/27

We had an epic start to snowmobile season – the Gaylord area got hit with over 90 inches of snow to start out winter!
Due to the warmer temps, trails are in poor condition and grooming has stopped. Don’t worry, there’s more snow in the forecast! Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord.
A few things to remember about groomers:
– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way.
– Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night.
– Have fun and stay safe!

Misty rain and 38 degrees. Sled traffic was more than I expected to see on thursday but yesterday compared to today was fantastic. A few times I saw at least 15 sleds over at the swamp and a few sleds rode into Sledheads. This morning a different storty. Icy, Slushy and dirt coming thru. Below are a few pics from yesterday where it looked decent and the ugly pics are from this morning. It rained and melted most all night at my house and all my snow melted off my porch during the night. Not looking good for tommorow either.with rain and 40s predicted.thru sunday. I wish I had better news. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Temperatures also climb above freezing through the overnight, remaining there until Thursday evening. The bad news is that gusty winds return late tonight into Thursday. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?

Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy.
