Gaylord Area Trail Report – VisitGaylord.com – 01/03

A couple of more inches overnight to add to the 4 to 6 inches of the last couple of days. Some early season riders are out on marginal, ungroomed conditions. Some reports of good early-season riding on two-tracks near Vanderbilt. 4 to 7 inches in the forecast. Might be enough to get the groomers out. Should improve the early season, ungroomed riding opportunities.

Sledheads of Frederic – 01/03

A little more snow fell overnight, maybe about one inch of new. Temps are supposed to get colder with more snow predicted. A little at a time will get us closer to riding time. There were a few sleds out and about yesterday but I still say it is way to early. Just for the heck of it I did the motel survey in town this morning and there were zero trailers at the Days Inn and surprisingly there was one trailer at the Ramada. There was an accident on the snowmobile trail yesterday north of Frederic almost to Waters but it didn’t involve a sled. Somehow a truck ended up on the trail upside down. No one hurt thankfully. It was pretty quiet in here all day yesterday but after 3 p.m. it seemed people on their way home from the U.P. started stopping in. They all said there were a lot of trailers going north but they had reported decent riding in the muninsing and grand marais and seney areas. I would imagine the same thing will happen sunday afternoon with people stopping in here for a pit stop on their way south. Just get off at exit 264 and come into Frederic and make sure I am awake. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Gaylord Area Trail Report – VisitGaylord.com – 01/02

We are getting reports of about 10 inches of snow in the Waters Area. It is a start. But it doesn’t look like enough yet to get the groomers out. More snow on Saturday and that may add enough to the base to get the groomers out for the first time this year.

Sledheads of Frederic – 01/02

Its a sunny cold and crispy morning outside in Frederic, it was minus 2 earlier and even though its very sunny out its still about 8 degrees. We had maybe a half inch of very light fluffy snow overnight. Yesterday after about 3 a few sleds poked their skis out but I still think its way to early. The only good thing about those that were riding yesterday is that its good for carbide and slides sales. Even when I went home last night there were 2 sleds crossing the business loop by 72 and there is a lot less snow in Grayling then there is in Frederic. Weather and snow predictions are looking promising but we need a whole lot more to get the groomers going. So its still best to wait it out. Thanks for checking in. Pete
