KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Krupps Resort – We picked up 5 more inches Friday night into Saturday morning but all’s quiet now! More snow is in the forecast and Really COLD temps! A high of just 1 above for Xmas so hopefully that changes even tho it would surely freeze up all the wet spots in short fashion!.

As of 12/18/17, the Keweenaw Peninsula has 22″ of snow on the ground and has received a total of 94″ of snow for the season.
Keweenaw Snowmobile Trails-Provided by the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club
Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open but are in early season condition. Some groomers are out panning trails and clearing hazards. More snow is needed.
Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there is low snow cover, rocks, branches, wet areas and hazards that have not been identified.
The Portage lift Bridge is open for snowmobile traffic and the mat is down.
Trail 124, 132W and 133 are temporarily closed for logging.
Remember when you’re out on the trails to watch out for the groomers. They have the right away.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Patchy dense fog is possible early this morning across the west and central U.P. and then again tonight. KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via The U.P. Superior Snowmobile Club >> Yesterday's report from Groomer Chris out of our Greenland barn:
I just got back from inspecting 3/13. Roughly 18 bare spots this evening compared to the two that were there when I went out around noon. Most of the bare spots are 3-4' in diameter however there is about a 16' long bare spot on the 90 degree turn/hill by 3. Significant portions of the trails are pretty slushy and the snow is real loose on the majority of the trails. Thankfully 13 is still in decent shape however the stretch of 3 from aspen lane to the 3/12 intersection is full of small 6" or so moguls.
I'm gonna hold off on grooming because the snow is so wet I don't think I'll be able to get it to flow out the drag and it's not gonna get cold enough to firm up the snow.

With dry air mixing in, totals will be relatively kept in check, but a swath of 1-3", perhaps 4" is possible along M-28 south of Grand Marais. Changing wind fields will also allow for light/brief accumulations along some of our lakeshore regions in the Lower Peninsula, but it's not guaranteed for everyone. Timing is through the remainder of the day. The weather has been pretty crazy the past week and a half. Hopefully it will settle down and stay cold for the month of March. Looks like another busy weekend with the hill climbs in South Range. Plus the dog sled races in the Keweenaw.
