Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 12/10

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western & Southern UP Trail Reports – My Monday morning report… "Right now, it’s wonderful….."

This is the Keweenaw Snowmobile Trail System Report for Monday, December 10th, 2018.

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are officially open and in early season condition. The groomers were out over the weekend and panned. They will go out again, once we have sufficient snow. We will update you as soon as something happens.

Trail 120 and 121 that goes around Freda is closed for the season and will not be reopened. As well as trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden. You can still get to Dollar Bay by way of Hancock and to Lake Linden by way of Calumet. Trails 122, 124, 133 are closed until the ground freezes, Currently the water holes are too deep. Trails 132 north of Lac Labelle 133, and 134 are closed for logging and will reopen once they are done. Trail 3 from Clear Lk Junction to Copper Harbor is TEMPORARILY closed for logging. It is scheduled to be opened by December 15th and will remain open for the remainder of the season.

The Houghton/Hancock bridge will be closed until the end of shipping season, so the mat will not go down for a few more weeks

Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there is very low snow cover and there are rocks, stumps, branches, wet areas and hazards that have not been identified.

Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 12/07

Grooming has officially begun in the Keweenaw. Trail 3 from Mohawk to Lac la Belle Rd was panned tonight – packing it and filling in any water holes. Trail 3 from Mohawk to Calumet and Trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock will be groomed in the early morning hours.

The additional snowfall received yesterday and today has helped and the trail is in fair condition.

There are still trails closed due to logging and significant wet areas – as soon as these trails freeze up and additional snow falls, they will be opened and grooming will begin.

Trail Closures include:
Trails 122, 124, the northern 132, 133, 134 and Trail 3 from Lac la Belle Rd north into the Harbor.

Unfortunately, this means there is not any access into Copper Harbor at this time by trail. There is also not access to Gay via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club trails. Lac la Belle is still accessible, however Lac La Belle Lodge / Bear Belly Bar & Grill is not open until after Christmas.

All of the trails are expected to be open by Christmas if not before – HOPEFULLY.

Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and The Freda Loop ( Trails 120 and 121 ) are closed for the entire season due to the storm/flood in June.

At this time the only option for gas is along trail 3 at Vansville Bar in Phoenix – please plan any riding accordingly.
