KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western Up Trail Reports….
I finally got a day off so I just had to video Justin Rogan covering my end today. Looks like some Cold weather Sat. Sun. with snow in the forecast. We did pick up a little over 5″ the last couple days but with high traffic it’s hard to keep the trails in tip top shape.

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports….
It has been an incredibly busy week riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula! Heavy traffic and low snowfall amounts have definitely affected the quality of trails over the course of the week.
The groomer operators worked hard all day Monday getting the Portage Lake Lift Bridge opened for snowmobile crossing. Tuesday they were able to fully open trail 122 for the first time this season. Wednesday and Thursday Trail Boss Scott Heikkinen and crew of groomer operators worked tirelessly attempting to keep machines operating and provide the best possible trails they could.
Chris Kopacz was up for his first trip of the season and shared these photos and comments about his trip with us – “Well the riding is completed for this trip to the UP. 463 miles total in. We made it to some great places as well. Trails were good considering the lack of snow and HEAVY traffic. Groomers were out doing the best they could. Can’t wait till the next trip up! The Keweenaw and the UP are such a magical place!”
I agree with you 💯 percent Chris – the Keweenaw IS a magical place! Thank you for taking the time to share photos and comments with us from your trip!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via The U.P. Superior Snowmobile Club >> Yesterday's report from Groomer Chris out of our Greenland barn: I just got back from inspecting 3/13. Roughly 18 bare spots this evening compared to the two that were there when I went out around noon. Most of the bare spots are 3-4' in diameter however there is about a 16' long bare spot on the 90 degree turn/hill by 3. Significant portions of the trails are pretty slushy and the snow is real loose on the majority of the trails. Thankfully 13 is still in decent shape however the stretch of 3 from aspen lane to the 3/12 intersection is full of small 6" or so moguls. I'm gonna hold off on grooming because the snow is so wet I don't think I'll be able to get it to flow out the drag and it's not gonna get cold enough to firm up the snow. Thank you, Chris! #keweenaw... See MoreSee Less

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western Up Trail Reports….
I was just informed by my trail boss that the trail up Brockway mtn. is pretty much bare. After the warm weather and high winds there’s very little snow with lots of ice. I would avoid that area and come into Copper Harbor from the north off of trail 134.

We hope you all enjoyed Christmas whether you were gathered around the tree with family and friends or riding through the trees behind the bars of your sled!
Joka Philipovic spent the day riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula and shared these photos and comments, “we started from The Trailside Lodge and then took Trail 3 north all the way to Copper Harbor. We put around 150 miles on our sleds and it was awesome with almost no traffic. There were a couple wet areas but none that were bad. There was plenty of snow ❤😀”
Thanks for sharing your photos and comments! So glad you have been enjoying your trip!
Groomer Operators are out currently. You can view their progress by downloading Groomer Tracker app and subscribing to the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club. There is a $10 fee and half of that goes to the club! You will obtain real time grooming information AND help support the club!
We are under a winter weather advisory for Monday!
👏The Portage Lake Lift Bridge will be opened for snowmobile crossing tomorrow afternoon. Groomer operators will be working on this in the morning, please avoid the area while they are getting the snow mat put down
⚠Trail 122 is closed after the turn off for Dreamland Restaurant & Bar (Sawmill Rd) when you are coming from Lake Linden. You can still access all of the businesses in Lake Linden and Jam Service Inc. and Valley Sno Drifters trail to Dreamland once that club opens it. *You can not use Trail 122 to connect to Trail 124*
⚠Trail 133 has been reopened after being closed for several seasons. The trail is in poor condition due to low snow cover and wet areas
🛑 Trail 120/121 Freda Loop and Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden will be closed for the season due to the extensive damage from the 2018 flood. The trail from Hancock to Dollar Bay and from Calumet to Lake Linden will be open so both towns will be accessible
