Welcome to spring riding conditions….. the good, the bad and the ugly.
What a difference a day makes! Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day to be riding Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula! Tge Keweenaw Snowmobike Club trails were in amazing condition and we enjoyed an excellent lunch at The Mariner North!
Today is a much different scenario. We are experiencing freezing rain and it is making riding conditions awful to be honest! Not a day to be out riding….. pretty much impossible to even keep your goggles/shield clear.
Grooming operations have been suspended for the next 12-24 hours.
The good news is, we still have A LOT of snow on the ground and colder temps/snow are in the forecast this week after a warm up on Tuesday.
This IS spring riding and it is personally my favorite time to ride!

Trail 3 is back open again just south of South Range. Please use caution as the trail is narrow in that area for the remainder of the season.

I just got back from inspecting 3/13. Roughly 18 bare spots this evening compared to the two that were there when I went out around noon. Most of the bare spots are 3-4' in diameter however there is about a 16' long bare spot on the 90 degree turn/hill by 3. Significant portions of the trails are pretty slushy and the snow is real loose on the majority of the trails. Thankfully 13 is still in decent shape however the stretch of 3 from aspen lane to the 3/12 intersection is full of small 6" or so moguls.
I'm gonna hold off on grooming because the snow is so wet I don't think I'll be able to get it to flow out the drag and it's not gonna get cold enough to firm up the snow.
