Munising Area Trail Report – 01/03

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County Sorva – 1/3

TRAIL REPORT – Monday, January 3, 2022 TRAILS LOOKING GOOD AND HELPING NEIGHBORS! We have a chilly morning with no new snow, lighter traffic and a trail system in with overall good condition, fair to poor in towns and near roadways. There are some icy corners, ice patches and dirty / gravel mix snow in the outlying areas so ride with caution. Operators were getting really good results last night.

Our neighboring club in Seney to the East has unfortunately been down to one machine this season and doing what they can to keep up. Last night we helped out at Seney’s requested by grooming an additional 15 miles East on Trail 8 to the Trail 43 Intersection.

As usual trails are expected to get choppy throughout the day so ride safe, stay right and enjoy! Keep doing the Cold Weather Snow Dancing and Stay Tuned for updates!

GWINN AREA UPDATE via Forsyth Snowmobile and ATV Club >> Trail update for Gwinn area, Central Upper Peninsula. Our town is in need of snow, took a ride East over towards Alger County and they definitely have more snow over that way. Buckhorn area was smooth all the way down south and across over to Big Springs area. Big Springs area north had some small rocks on the trail and once we got by the Jack Pine Trails were good again. Came through shingleton and quite the snow storm at 6:00 on Saturday evening. Unfortunately the snow didn't come to our town. Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

Munising Area Trail Report – 01/02

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County Sorva – 1/2

TRAIL REPORT – Sunday, January 2, 2022

TRAILS OK BUT MACHINE DOWN! Last night the big John Deere could not run. A pre-groom Inspection found 3 of 4 bolts on the front track top mount sheared off. Al, Chris , Keith and Quest worked into the morning repairing. The repair is expected to be completed today for tonight’s grooming run. With that the East half of our Trail System from West M94 East to Shingleton was not groomed last night and will be choppy. Otherwise 2 to 4 inches of new snow fell again with another slight improvement to the trails. Light snow conditions and heavy sled traffic still have our trail system in overall fair to good condition, poor in towns and near roadways. There are some icy corners, ice patches and dirty snow in the outlying areas so ride with caution. Operators that were able to groom were getting better results having the new snow. We did get one East section groomed from Shingleton North 7 miles. As usual trails are expected to get choppy throughout the day so ride safe, stay right and enjoy! Keep doing the Cold Weather Snow Dancing and Stay Tuned for updates!
