Newberry Trail Report – 03/08

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association – 3/8

March 8, 2020 2:00pm

Update: We did groom all the trails last night. They are good at night when the temperatures drop back below freezing. The best riding is late night or early morning right now. The staging area in town is mud and it is pretty slushy heading up to the trail head. The sides of the road are bare, along with the roads and alley ways in town. You can avoid all that by using the Silver Creek Staging area. It is 46 degrees out right now. The overnight low is only supposed to hit 36 degrees. We may attempt to go out after dark, but we will see how it goes and how far we get. There is a chance we do not go out at all. Overall deeper in the system the trails are still pretty good and there is snow we can pull in if the temperatures will work with us. March 31st is not far off when the trails will close that cross private property and the gates will close unless additional permissions from the land owner is granted. County roads and state lands and portions of the trail would still be accessible as long as the snow holds out. We Take Pride in Your Ride!

47 tomorrow and currently looks like rain tomorrow night
28/20 on Tues
36/28 Wednesday
42/31 Thursday
We will see how the next three days play out. We will keep you posted on our ability to groom going forward as early as we can in the morning or update our status late at night. There is still a lot of snow some areas are just more worn done than others, just depends on where the sun is hitting. Late season riding conditions.

There is a staging area north of town at Silver Creek 3 miles north if you want to avoid the side of the road out of town. Go north after crossing the tracks and take a left at the Silver Creek ORV sign and go to the dead end and start out from there on Trail 9. Plenty of room there!

Current Hours: Northstore Hours on Cnty Rd 407 is open Sunday to Wednesday from 9am to 9pm and Thursday to Sat. 9am to 11pm. Gas, Snacks and general information. Sled Rentals Available!

The Wolf Inn is open 7 days a week 11am-10pm. Food. Will be closing for the winter season March 29th.

The Pine Stump is open 7 days a week now Mon.-Sun. 11am to 10pm for the kitchen.

Tahquamenon Falls Brewery & Pub is open.
Trail #9/2/473 (Good) (South of Newberry) Groomed to the Rexton, Epoufette last night. As it warms up on today the portion of the trail that had a water issue earlier will almost certainly open back up. This is about 3 miles South once you cross M-28. The caution and stop ahead signs are still posted surrounding the affected area.
Trail #45 (Good) There is one area of interest. It is from Skyline Road for 3 miles that is plowed due to logging. Please use caution when going through this area. It is starting to get a little rough through there with the warm up. We will groomed to the Falls and back last night.
Trail #9 (Good) One of the most traveled trails. We groomed all the way to Holland Lake last night. Except portions of the trail is be a little rougher than others depending on the time you are coming through.
Trial #498 off of Trail 9 (Good) NE over to the Northstore for gas. We will groomed last night.

For a more detailed report please go to TASA’s web site www.tasatrails.com

Update: The snow will settle in this morning, afternoon and through tonight into Friday morning. It will be a long persistent snow with gusty winds and heavy at times. County roads and state lands and portions of the trail would still be accessible as long as the snow holds out. The roads and alley ways in town are bare, but the snow predicted will that will rectify that situation. The details for the trails are below. We Take Pride in Your Ride!
Please BEWARE of the groomers on the trails. We Take Pride in Your Ride, but we take just as much concern with your safety. Everyone is here for a fun time, but returning home to your families safely is just as important to us!

A friendly reminder is slow down and stay to the right especially on the corners. Stay on the trail. Private property owners gives us the privilege to have trails across their property and we do not want to lose it.
TASA works mostly with volunteers. We have the best groomers in the U.P. They dedicate long hours and nights away from their families to groom the trails so you can enjoy them safely. Please be cautious as you approach a groomer as they stop for your safety so please slow down when you are passing them. It is always appreciated when you can tip your hat to them and thank them for their efforts or give them a wave. Be Safe out there and take time to enjoy nature and the best scenery the U.P has to offer.
