Newberry Trail Report – 04/03

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump – 04/03

Trail 9 coming north was groomed one last time yesterday. With all the snow this weekend, if you can sneak away the next few days, there is a great opportunity.
We have parking out back for anyone that wants to trailer up for the day.
Thank TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association for all the hard work this winter. All the volunteers and groomer drivers work hard for everyone to have fun and enjoy the area trails.
We have a few remaining TASA raffle tickets. Help us with wrapping up this fundraising efforts. Message us for details.

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association >> Just in case you thought I couldn't make entering 9 from M123 in Newberry look this nice twice πŸ˜‰
Decision making time, thought we give her a try, 28⁰ and headed in the wrong direction, back to snow not agreeing with our needs very well, would if we in the snowman making business, wants to stick and not flow or cycle through the drag, 6 miles in, making her flat but if its not going to set up, it won't last at all.
Plenty of riding snow, just won't stay where we put it. Im going to flatten it out to the 498 intersection, and bring it back home for the night, I'll get right back in this thing as soon as the thermometer starts working with, rather than against us.
HEY!! 😊 More traffic already since I've seen all year, and they ALL pulled over!! πŸ₯° TYTYTY!!
Busy busy busy!!
If its OK with you guys imma keep going, she needs us whether we like it or not, just remember earl season grooming conditions as well, dont be to harsh with your critiques K?

It's a messy system with multiple precipitation types, so be sure to click on our page to go see our ice forecast.

Discussion
The north side of the low will have much colder air, and the deformation zone for this event will be set up across the eastern UP and Lake Superior region. Totals greater than 1" of snow (some melting) will be confined north of M-55 to the Mackinac Bridge, while totals closer to the 3"+ mark are confined from St. Ignace up to Paradise and Sault Ste. Marie. Additionally, the Keweenaw Peninsula also may see the highest snowfall totals too.

You may have noticed that we added a new color for this event only. Because there is a gradual change from rain to snow... freezing rain, and even sleet is expected with this event. Sleet is like the shared sibling between snow and freezing rain. Sleet is snow that melted to rain really high up immediately after falling from the clouds, but spent enough time in the cold sector after melting to reform into tiny pellets. Freezing rain, however, forms when there isn't enough time for the rain to reform back into those tiny ice pellets due to that warm sector close to the ground, but because the ground itself IS a cold sector, it freezes on contact. Yes, sleet is slippery, but due to its properties, it's not quite as impactful. Still, because of the sleet's size, it accumulates in tenths of an inch similar to snow instead of hundredths like freezing rain. As a result, much of the white trace-1" corridor will likely fall as <1" of both snow and sleet. Again, not a huge amount, but worth mentioning. Timing for this snowfall will be similar to that of the ice. Anytime from 6 am EST Friday through the end of the day Friday is the expected duration.

Winter weather advisories are now in effect for the eastern UP regarding this snowfall. We will have traffic impact maps and timing maps coming later this afternoon after our Christmas morning activities. See you all back here soon!

HARBOR SPRINGS AREA UPDATE via Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club – 04/01

That’s a wrap for the 2022/23 Snowmobile Season!
The DNR did extend our grooming season through this weekend, however we are done grooming due to the lack of snow.
This winter was a rollercoaster to say the least, we got dumped on numerous times only for it to melt a few days later but we made the best of it. Thank you to all of our supporters, volunteers, & landowners for making another season possible.
We have a meeting this Thursday at the Harbor Barn at 7pm & to all you golfers out there, stay tuned for details on our upcoming spring golf outing! ⛳️
