KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 01/22
What an amazing weekend here in the Keweenaw! We hope you all had fun wherever you were able to ride! If you weren’t able to ride, we hope you were busy planning a trip in the future!
This past week, we personally heard from 3 riders that actially extended their trips by a day because they were having such a great experience.
Alex Linstead was one of them! Alex shared these photos of his trip with us and said,
“We drove up early Saturday morning, brought my buddy whos never had the chance to ride the Keweenaw before. We put on 200 miles Saturday and had mostly excellent trails! We stopped at the The Mariner North in Copper Harbor. We decided to stay the night and went to Downtowner Lounge for dinner. Then we stopped at Quincy’s for a drink, where we saw the groomer go by and went out and rode the section of 3 that just reopened and it was amazing! Went back out thismorning and put on another 60 miles before heading out, ate breakfast at Slim’s Cafe and and it was great!”

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club – 01/21
Trails took a beating yesterday as the main corridors on our system saw very high traffic. As a reminder, we lack a robust “base” for this time of year. We cut and laid things back down but without that base it tears apart quickly.
Reminder that the High Rock Spur is not being groomed due to the trail condition and that there are still many wet areas on our system. Ride right and with caution as you support our local establishments!

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> It will be warmer today with highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Light snow is possible south of an Iron Mountain to Escanaba line but any accumulation will be very light. We’re excited to say, everything is OPEN on our system with ONE exception Trail 124 is still closed 🛑 for LOGGING! Please respect this closure and stay off Trail 124! Huge thank you to all the volunteers, our team, locals and DNR staff who have supported this effort! It’s been unlike anything we’ve seen before. #keweenaw #snowphotos
WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via The U.P. Superior Snowmobile Club >> Groomer Brad reporting:
Trail 3 from Twin Lakes to Mass City is in very good condition. There are a few wet areas that he filled and should have frozen overnight. The DNR funded a new drag for us this year. Brad reports that it is a very nice tool! 🙂
