Attention Northern Michigan Snowmobilers! We’ve received approximately 6 inches of fresh snow overnight Friday, with forecasts predicting continued lake-effect snow throughout the weekend. While the current trail conditions are suitable for riding, Please use caution some trails are showing dirt. We will keep you updated on any additional changes to the weather. Please check back for updates and trails conditions.
Please remember that groomers have the right of way and kindly move off the trail so they can safely proceed. If you approach a groomer from behind, the operator will signal when it’s safe for you to pass. Groomers are here to make your ride more enjoyable so please be courteous!

About 1 more inch fell since my update yesterday. From my cameras I could still see the one set of car tracks thru my drive at Sledheads. So I am still sticking with my thoughts from yesterday that it would only be kind of good for the first couple sleds thru. I see all kinds of posts on people that want to or are coming up to ride saying its only carbides and slides, all I know is I wouldnt take my sled out with what we have. I dont like it anymore than everyone else but thats just the way it is. On a brighter note I met Trevor Gruhn yesterday who is a regular reader from down by Kzoo. I fixed him up with a new Sledheads T and sweatshirt. He like everyone else wishes there was more snow too. We need a really heavy duty system snow to hit us. I talked to David over at the swamp last night and he said he only had 2 sleds in all day yesterday and that was about 9 last night. Thanks for checking in and if you do ride please ride safely. Pete

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Still a decent amount of wind out there this morning but not as stiff as yesterday. I only saw about a dozen sleds on friday and I see a few over at the swamp this morning probably having the breakfast buffet. Last nite I went there for a mushroom and swiss burger and they had a band. To bad the place was pretty empty. We had about 1 inch of fluff overnight and I dont expect to see to many people today. I had the loader come last nite to move snow at both my storage lot and my parking lot behind Sledheads. It was so bad yesterday after the thaw I needed that big equipment to make it more tolerable. Still a decent amount of wind out there this morning but not as stiff as yesterday. Winds are stiff and when this slush hardens up from the cold its gonna make it really rough. So here I sit in Sledheads and it will be a great day for pushing slush and watching t.v. Stop by and say hi if you are in the area. I do still have my rental cottage avaiilable if you want to come and just camp out there for the winter. I wish I had a better report. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Its misty rain and 37 degrees on this thursday morning in downtown Frederic. Roads are wet. I finally did see some sleds out and about yesterday, 4 at the Frederic Inn and 5 at Bear Lake Inn and a few guys that drove in here this morning they said they stopped by here after I left yesterday. They had rode up to the bridge and back as they were from Ohio and staying here in Frederic. There is still alot of snow in the woods but things are getting slushy. Pics below are from this morning. Its supposed to drop in temp tonight but they are showing 30s on some of next week. Thats the best I can tell you. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord #snowphotos
