Cadillac / Baldwin Area Trail Report – Wolf Lake Motel and Resort – 01/11

Hi Everyone, it’s been snowing most days and the groomers have been running on a regular basis and all the riders have been smiling. Trails are better and better everyday with the exception of some ice in some of the curves. So slow down and enjoy the area. One thing that is nice around here, we are in the middle of 6 different grooming clubs, (which we are members of 4), if one isn’t grooming, one of the other Clubs are grooming and we have maps right in the Office. If you don’t have a snowmobile or yours is broken, no problem, WE HAVE ON-SITE SNOWMOBILE RENTALS right here at the Resort. Most county roads are snow covered, so getting fuel or food shouldn’t be a problem except right in the little Village of Baldwin, south of us. There is tons of snow in the woods, so two tracken and seasonal roads are a blast right now. (Which there are tons of). THE LAKES ARE NOT SAFE YET.

Rooms and ON-SITE Snowmobile Rentals are available.

We are members of the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, Baldwin Trailriders Snowmobile Club, Benzie/Manistee Snowbirds Snowmobile Club, Irons Area Tourist Association Snowmobile Club, Wellston Area Recreation and Tourist Bureau Snowmobile Club, Lake County ORV Club and the Michigan Snowmobile Association, which are the local grooming clubs. I can not thank these guys and gals enough, they do a lot of work for free, so we all can enjoy this sport. I would only think that if someone is complaining about a bumpy trail on Saturday afternoon, come to a couple club meetings and see just what these people do. They would never complain again. Thank you again.

Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm. See ya soon on the trails.

Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 01/11

Greetings Sledders,

Not much going on right now although we had a pretty full parking lot over the weekend and all of those that we talked to reported good to great rides once again. Kudos to our jockeys for doing a great job of grooming in a replenishing snow starved environment and for being delicate with what we have. It’s a tricky thing to accomplish considering the literal mass of the machinery that we drive through the woods.

Their efforts are going to be rewarded tomorrow as we are going to shut down grooming for a day and take a group ride on the smaller, faster machines and head for Tally’s in Lewiston where I will deliver their Dec. paychecks which amounts to a burger, an order of fries and a Coke, or iced tea, whatever as long it ain’t beer. The fries and Coke are actually their retro-active Christmas bonuses. Believe it or not these guys will be happy at the end of the day because we do this insane function for you and because we like to.

TIME TO FIRE IT UP:

WEATHER:
This will become the topic of every reporter’s choice in the days to come. We don’t have a complete handle on what’s in store for us and it’s painfully obvious after watching the 6:00 news that the local professional prognosticators are equally in the dark. A warm up is emanate. To what degree and to what extent the Sun will play a part are the uncertainties at this point. We can tolerate a 30 degree day as long as the Sun stays behind cloud cover, a 30 degree day with the Sun on high beam with a clear sky is a completely different story.

GROOMING:
Down tomorrow and back in the saddle Wed. as long as the aforementioned weather thingy doesn’t cut us off at the knees. Have to wait and see.

TRAILS:
Best advice here is to ride now!! Things could get ugly at pretty much anytime in the near future.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls

At Fay’s Motel enjoy direct access to the Grayling Area snowmobile trails.
