Snow, baby, snow! We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and our trails got hit with over 30 inches of snow over the holiday weekend. The rumors are true and it’s still coming down!
Trails are officially open and groomers are running today. Expect lots of fresh snow and watch for drifting. Please be patient while groomers get our trails into excellent condition with all this fresh snow!
A few things to remember about groomers: Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass. If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass. Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night. Have fun and stay safe!

Wow! Finally a year with rideable snow on December 1st. Sleds have been riding in all morning, first phone call came at 7:30 this morning and trailers are parked everywhere. I would guess another eight inches of snow over night and trying to keep up plowing is a trick. For those of you that have parked trailers at my storage lot I am not going to take any trailers at this time as I am already tight on room down there. Just check with me ahead of time to see if I can get some room down there. Parking out back behind my shop will be just daily and by donation. I would say we have to be about the 2 foot mark for the snow this week. Still the same story at Lake Margrethe by my house and I havent even dropped my blade yet at home. The snow is all north and west of Frederic. I cant even remember the last time we had snow on December 1. The snow is supposed to keep it up all week so I imagine next weekend will be really busy. Please remember to ride safely. This is the start of my 27th or 28th year in this place. Boy time flies when your having fun. Thanks for checking in. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Precip will gradually taper through the evening. Temperatures also climb above freezing through the overnight, remaining there until Thursday evening. The bad news is that gusty winds return late tonight into Thursday. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Additional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?
WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> From Billy Miller in Gaylord. Absolutely wild how trees bend to the ground under the immense weight of the ice.
Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy.
